Is it true?
Mechanical engineer who worked in the auto industry has a 2002 TR vert with manual and 20k miles. She plans on selling it at BJ in 2022, 20 yrs old, for $65k. Her explanation is that the 2002 vert is the 1st vert built to be a vert, while previous ones were modified coupes.
I know that there must be thousands of low mileage 2002 out there so the $65k is ridiculous but what about the body??? Is it true?

I am not aware of anything different chassis engineering-wise on the 2002 'vert that wasn't there on the '98, which was the first year for C5 'verts. Even if there was something different, it is relatively invisible to the average person...so she is probably the only person alive who cares.
If she gets much more than $20k I would be very surprised.

I remember looking at my 06 mustang vert on a jack ....and it had an entire extra subframe under it for stiffening

so they held onto a car for 20 years and hardly drove it to get like 10-15k over sticker price (assuming it actually sells for that which we know it won't)... seems like a total waste to me

No fun and not a wise investment even if she gets $65k. She could have put the $50k in a mutual fund in 2002 and done much better.

The C5 was designed to handle duties as a vert right from the start of the ‘97 model year so what she is claiming is totally wrong. And $65K - good luck with that.

The C5 is not a monocoque design, and was designed as a convertible from day one. There is no structural difference between a 1998 vert and later years.
A 2002 convertible might make $20k or thereabouts if the owner gets lucky and the car is immaculate.
