I have a 2001 C5 Coupe that is hard starting. (This started with a whiny fuel pump). My mech. replaced the fuel pump and then it was hard to start after that. The first turn of the key and the engine would crank. On the 2nd it would catch and run. It appears the check valve in fuel line assy GM Part # 10448899 has gone bad. Apparently these aren't made any longer. Does anyone know of a reproduction source for these?
Mine was doing that. Now I turn key to on without going to start. Then I turn it to off. Then I turn it on and start it. Fires instantly. Thought it might be an electronic glitch or switch starting to go bad.

Thanks. Yes mine will work also if I do that. The pump primes the line, (i'm told) and it'll fire up. It's when I try and start it without turning the key to initialize things is when it fails. Very frustrating to say the least. Thanks for the reply. I'll post the results when they nail it.
Thanks. It's hard to say what is a "good used one" as these sometimes cost nearly as much as the original, (with no warranty). My mech got the last one off of Ebay, (I highly suspect the advertisement that it's "new"). I appreciate the response and will let the group know what it finally came down to.

if you immediately try to start the car you do realize there is no fuel pressure so it isn't going to start... it takes a second or 2 for pressure to build up so if you are able to turn the key on to let the pump prime and then it starts you may not have a problem

I would turn it to on, let the gauges sweep, put on my seat belt then turn to start. It would not start right away. If I turn it to on, turn it off then turn it to start it will fire instantly. Not sure if it's the same problem. When I first got it, the car would start instantly no matter how I started it. The check valve makes sure the pressure stays up after shutting off. My truck had a leak in system and would lose pressure and start hard. My problem in the C5 may be in the switch

Yep that about sums it up. This morning I cranked it for a good 10-15 seconds, (I know a bit too long) but then it started with a cough. Came home in the evening and did what JR-01 suggested. Turned the key and let the fuel pump wind up then cranked it over first time. I did find a good article on how the C5 fuel system works though. It seems certain models may also share some of the same components as the Cadillac XLR, (If you haven't seen one it's basically a Corvette with Cadillac touches). I did find a few companies that specialize in custom fuel lines reproduction, (Mostly solid tubing that's pre-bent) so I have feelers out there to them too. Our C5s are just in the middle between classic and modern and the aftermarket hasn't really caught up with them yet. I love mine and just want to keep it humming along.

the xlr is an odd one for sure... I do know that they use the same rear cradle as the c6, I found that out when I was looking for one to do a tr6060 swap into my car
