So my lower dash (under my steering wheel) was held on with a screw through the side... which obviously isn't correct. When i look at pictures and instructions (like to do the lingenfelter clutch spring) they show 2 screws on the under side of the dash pad...
i don't have a bar or anything that runs here... am i missing something? Why someone would remove it i have no idea. But what should be here? right now i only have the upper fasteners in the lower dash cover holding it on.
i'll take better pics tonight. But any idea what piece i'm missing? I'm sure once i figure it out i can hit up someone parting a C5 out.
People do the weirdest stuff to these cars lol. why would someone remove that...
I think the metal support is in upside down. ???? If I remember right.
i'm not following? are you looking at the pic of my car and seeing something on wrong?

That would be awesome. I can't find a pic showing that support area online. I'll snap better pics tonight when i get home of what's there... and what's not lol. I'm happy to buy it if you have it.
anyone have any pics of that lower dash area. specifically that bar/area the lower dash bolts to?

I think what was said above about the metal support piece being upside down is correct. The lower column "kick panel" bolts towards the bottom by the pedals and slips into the trim area above it near the wheel (if memory serves me right there are actually a bolt or two up top, including one that's hidden in the interior temp square vent).
As to why that may be flipped, back in the day prior to the LMC5 most CLBs were installed directly under the column (these are often referred to as Corvettes of Houston CLBs, since they were the big vendor to supply them). To install them, most removed the under column kick panel to easily access everything. You **could** install it all with the panels in place but it's a real PITA to do it that way. There's a chance that whomever was trying to install an old CLB just started removing stuff and didn't re-install everything correctly.
I agree, the support structure is installed upside down. On the ends of it were the screws for the knee bolster go, there should be the spring clip style captive nuts. These just slip over the end.
