I've searched around but can't find info here on window tinting
Looking to get tint done but I have a targa top and hatchback and I can't see tint sticking to the 500 dots at the top of the window.
I've heard black vinyl the top section then tint below ..blah bah blah
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??? I know there's a ton of guys that have their hatches tinted. Talk to me
My hatch is tinted with one piece and over the dots. It is stuck good with no air bubbles. The previous owner had it done so I really don't know anything about it except that it has been there for 7+ years without issue. A good tint shop should have no problems with it and you will love the heat reduction.

My tinter used a little Elmer's White Glue in the water, and said that it usually works, but it didn't in my car. It some point, it needs to be re-done.

I'm going to get mine redone on the z06 one of these days... I bought it with limo tint on the sides and back and it looks good except for the dot matrix... when I have it redone I'm using vinyl on the matrix, I did that on my old trans am and it looked great
With my coupe they did vinyl over the dot matrix and it looks perfect.
With my Z06 they just tinted right over and it's ok, unless you're looking for imperfections you'd never really notice, but bubbles are there.
If I ever have that car re-done I'll definitely have them do vinyl, but it's not really that bad.

The quality of the tint job over the dot matrix area depends significantly on the skill of the installer. I've seen some done really well with just tint and others that the quality was obviously not there.
I would ask to see some work done on other cars if you want to go with just tint.
I talked to the place I WAS going to take it too, The conversation ended abruptly after he told me I could sand the dots down. Looking for another now lol. ?He basically told me other cars such as Hondas have the dots as well and they usually come out ok. IDK..i just don't want to have to do it again in a yr or less
I have a 04 Z06 and bought black matte vinyl and did front and rear. i like it and with the dark tint and dark blue color of my car it blends right in.

Is the window tint applied over the black matte vinyl?
Is the window tint applied over the black matte vinyl?
No. He applied the vinyl then went tint down from the vinyl
He took his time and it looks FANTASTIC
I went 5% on tint, You can see the difference between vinyl and tint but I think I made the right choice and it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb
The vinyl follows the contour of the dot matrix
I also did a visor on the front windshield in 5%
Nice and dark inside but I can see better than I thought it would be lol
I'll get some pics up in a bit
THANKS to all for your input and opinions

Absolutely !
When I had mine done back in '03, "the" premier shop in Memphis was my choice based on my friends with other high-end cars.
The installer began the back window, lots of curves and those dots. He actually used Elmer's Glue Stick around the matrix area and of course the heat gun during the install. I asked about it and he said that it promoted the tint getting well adhered very close to each dot. He said in just a few days I would see what he was talking about. Shazam, he was right !
