GM clutch fluid
I went to my local dealer and they did not have any of the GM clutch fluid in stock. They told me that they would have to order an entire case even if I just wanted one 16oz bottle. They will sell just one bottle and they quoted me $16.50 for a 16oz bottle. They said that they would search the other dealers in my area to see if anyone has a case in stock. My local dealer said he could have another dealer ship a bottle to him.
Pepboys has a 12oz bottle of Valvoline synthetic Dot 3/Dot 4 brake fluid sitting on the shelf for $2.50.
Not sure which to use. Some people see to think that the GM fluid should be used.
I had the same situation. Hard to belive that a GM dealership can't stock a few bottles of cluch fluid. I made a few calls and found a dealership about 25 miles away that had some. I took the ride because I did'n't want to wait and purchased 4 bottles,so I have my own stock. I wanted to stick with the GM fluid because of the lubricant in it which helps reduce noise. :chevy
When I drained my clutch hydraulics in my 2000 FRC of all stock fluid and installed Castrol LMA, I did indeed get a little squeak when depressing the clutch. Minor and very low volume.....but it sure did squeak every time I pushed the clutch. It was annoying enough that I wished I had used GM fluid.
Perhaps a little research into non-GM fluids that meet their spec or have the "lubricant" in it is in order. There's gotta be an aftermarket fluid that works without the squeak.
I went to my local dealer friday and they too did not have any. They did however pick some up for me from another dealer and had it for me monday afternoon. It was $9.90 for a 16oz bottle.
I had a Ford dealership within 3 miles of my place, so I stopped by there and picked up the Motorcraft DOT3 fluid. I've been using it for around 2 weeks now and have had no squeak issues.
Not sure if the Ford stuff includes a lubricant, but I do know it only costs $3.85 for a 16 ounce bottle :yesnod:
part # is 12345347. Just got some at the dealer. Stupidly expense. 1 pint was $14.70 plus tax. At that price, I'm going to keep adding to the resevoir until I use it all.
mmorse,
adding to the resevoir??.......why would you do that, unless you were emptying it first??
Won't help you, unless you suck out the old, and refill with fresh...........
I run the Valvoline Synthetic - it exceeds all DOT 3 and 4 specs, has a higher wet and dry boiling point, and mixes with all stock fluids. I replace the resevoir fluid before and after track time and about once a month other than that. It stays nice and clean, no "squeaks", and last Sunday I made 25 passes down the 1/4 mile without a whimper from the clutch.
