I’ve just learned my insurance will cover the cost (less deductible) of installing a new HUD windshield. I’m curious if the installation is supposed to include a new gasket/seal or anything else new. I don’t want parts reused if I’m supposed to get new. Also, if there’s an installer in the Mobile, AL area you’d recommend, please let me know. Thanks!

Might be a good idea to call a number of glass shops to see what they say about a HUD-compatible C5 windshield and what parts are included. There has to be at least a Safelite shop somewhere in your area. I would think that glass shops will know what is necessary for a proper installation as opposed to what an insurance adjuster would know.
Lots of cars now use a urethane sealant that is heated before the windshield is installed.

Thanks,. Yes there is a Safelite and most likely I’ll use them, seems like their reviews are really good. I just want to make certain the insurance pays for a proper install including new seals/gaskets as standards dictate.
Mine was included to be replaced with the window. They brought one with them but didn't install it. They did charge me for it though. You know my story so make sure they install a new seal with the new window. It should be included with the total install. Good luck.
Just had mine done 2 months ago and FYI the top rubber seal of the windshield does not come with it! Make sure your glass installer gets one from the dealer if its not included. Have him double check before he does your windshield. Trying to save you a step and time. Also State Farm paid for everything minus deductible.

Thanks. So this seal is replaced as a matter of routine? I’ve pretty much decided on an installer after visiting several shops today recommended by USAA. I’ll certainly talk to them about the seal. I have an ‘02 Coupe with 112k mikes, so I’m sure a new seal is a good idea. I did learn that the GM HUD windshield is supposedly on nationwide backorder, so looks like it’ll be Pilkington or another aftermarket brand HUD windshield.

The top rubber seal CAN NOT be reused!. Had a glass expert of 25 years that has extensive corvette experience do the job. There are certain steps that must be taken with our cars and the top seal must be replaced and should use the dealer part. Also make sure the new glass is the exact replica of the stamped windshield specs located lower passenger side. Have your glass installer double check the part numbers.

I just had my HUD window replaced by Safelite and they did a great job once they got the right window.

Decided not to go with Safelite after all. Visited several auto glass installers yesterday and went with the one that most impressed me. I have had good experience with a local shop and after speaking with their owner and the shop foreman yesterday, I picked them. The company is a USAA preferred installer and their work is guaranteed. The glass and GM seals were ordered today and should be here this week. We’ll see how it goes.

Make sure it's not a Chinese knockoff!!! The glass is terrible, ripples and all.

It’s made in the USA — PGW — and they assure me it meets OEM HUD specifications. It better, it retails in excess of $1000. I agree with what you say about the Chinese knock-off trash. I was able to compare a new OEM GM, Pilkington, and a Chinese made passenger glass side-by-side a couple years ago. No detectable difference between GM and Pilkington, but the Chinese glass was wavy, even had bubbles in the glass. Absolute garbage.
The windshield was installed today. Took a few days for everything to come in and then schedule a time to get it done. I’m very happy with the results. In a few days I’ll make certain there’s no leaks, but all the trim pieces and gaskets look good, no gaps, no wind noise, no obvious issues. If anything, the HUD display is sharper than ever . . . and yes, I verified it’s a HUD windshield. It’s great looking out clear, clean, NEW glass! This was a big deal for me, and I sincerely appreciate all the helpful tips everyone provided. THANKS!!
