Default Plug or repair weatherstrip?

I have a hole in my drivers side rear targa weather stripping and if I were able to plug it I think it would fix my very slight leak (it only leaks when I drive through rain). I tried using silicone glue and that was a disaster (it ran down the side of the weather strip and started to come out into the door sill when I caught it and helped it dry) which left me embarrassed. I need a substance that can stick to the weather strip and seal a hole inside it. Any help would be appreciated!

The weather strip is hollow for a reason. Do not plug the inside channel - it wil make your problem worse, not better

Electrical tape is rubberized. Try a small strip of it over the place you are trying to patch.

Meantime, get some di-electric grease and wipe down the weatherstrip. It will help keep it a bit more supple and help prevent dry-rot of the rubber.

I tried flowable silicone and a number of other things to (try to) stop the leaks in my C5. Ultimately bit the bullet and replaced all the weatherstrip, plus the trapezoid shaped seals inside the door. THat took care of it,

w/pewter, replacing the best solution. Even the grease stuff turns into a sticky mess on the windows and attracts dust

Don’t buy reproductions. It’s too soft/squishy and won’t seal properly. Waste of money. Buy oem if at all possible.

Tell me about it... I took my targa off when I first got the car this spring and when I got home there was a layer of pollen on my weatherstripping!

thanks for the info guys, I'll save up for the real deal while monitoring to see if my little glue experiment worked.
