If I am looking at buying a 2001 ZO6, what should I look for? I heard that they burn a lot of oil. Could some one explain what exactly that is all about, and any other issues with the 2001s?
I have an 01 Z that I purchased not too long ago. Some have oil consumption issues, but not all of them. The only downside I saw to the 01 was the slightly lower HP (20 to be exact), and a few less options. On the 02 and newer you can get Heads Up Display. There were a few other small changes, but not many. The intake box has a larger opening in the 02 and 03's. I found an 01 w/1000 miles and if I would of found a similar 02 for $3000 or less, I would of bought the 02. The deal could not be found on an 02 for me, so I am more than pleased with my 01. Good luck.

I had an 01 vette vert nad had the oil consumptiom issue. Burned about 1 quart every 900 miles. Dealers will do a re-ring if you are burning more then 1 quart every 2000 miles. That was one big reason for me trading in my 01 vert for my 03 Z06. IMO it is a big issue to consider. Some dealers will give you a hard time about doing the re-ring. My dealer did and have heard of many others doing the same. If I were you I would look for an 02. Just my 2 cents. Good luck
Michael-
If buying a 2001 Z06......pretty sure GM had retrofitted the "new" rings onto the pistons if the VIN# was a later one......preferrably if the VIN# was past the 25K mark, you would probably be okay with the oil question......
Shop around for the 02 and enjoy the many changes GM offered for that beast!! You won't be sorry you did!! Either one is a blast to drive though!!

I wouldn't! Even some of the the '02s have oil problems -- PCV and rings! If you're concerned about the oil issue I would say that an '03 would be a much better bet than either an '02 or an '01. Again... not all '01's and not all '02s have the issue.
