yeah all, I'm new to the vette world as of last year. Right now my DD is a 05 Nissan 350z. I also use it for my HPDE car. Within the year I am looking to move to a c5 or c6 Vette for my DD and HPDE car. Why? 1. I am becoming a better driver and want a faster car for the track. 2. It is real expensive to modify the Z for better track use, just to make it to the level of a stock Vette.
I don't care of the looks on the rear window "notch back" window.
I like the looks of the hatch back style.
So my question. I know the C6 has the hatch back rear window, but when looking at some c5's it also pops up. What year / style did the long hatch back glass come out?
There are 3 body styles of C5s. "Coupe" is the hatchback. 97-2004. All "hatchbacks" have a removable one piece top.
Fixed Roof Coupe is the first picture you linked. Available in 1999 and 2000 as a "base" model. LS1 cars. Then in 2001 the ZO6 came out with the same body style as the 1999 and 2000 cars.
Third is a convertible, which I assume you're not interested in.
To recap, 3 body styles, coupe(hatchback), Fixed Roof Coupe(FRC), and convertible.
Coupe: glass hatch and targa top built from 1997 to 2004
Fixed Roof Coupe: no targa no glass hatch lighter than coupe. Built until 2000
Z06: built from 2001 until 2004. Same body as fixed roof coupe. More powerful engine, titanium exhaust, lighter wheels. Other bits and pieces.
Convertible: self explanatory.

Actually the FRC was made in 1999 and 2000 and then morphed into the Z06 from 2001 to 2004. If you are wanting a track car, I would recommend the Z06 or FRC - pretty much set up for the track from the factory.
