Default Reviews of TPS or Borla headers

Hi All,

its time for headers and I like the idea of a $1000 set of USA made headers, I can't find any user reviews...

So, does Anyone have any independent reviews of the TPS c5 headers advertised on this site?

The borla xr1 (17259) long tube headers also have my eye, but I can't seem to find anything on those either.

After an absolute mess of a 5 week long ordeal with a product reseller(total crap bag), I'm probably going to buy direct or from a very large proven dealer, no matter which brand (lg, borla,TPS or other)

Any feedback is welcome, but person experience is preferred.

Thanks!

-brad

and waited several months for mine..
No experience installing other brands.

I have the Borlas. I didn't install them, but the shop said install was easy/normal, similar to LGs. Build quality seemed very good to me, and my car makes great power, so I'd definitely buy them again.

easy install from the top. Didn't have to pull the starter or anything.

not sure if tps/Borla are 1 7/8 though. These are 1 3/4

I bought my Borla's off of ebay. Brand new, open package so $100 discount. Easy to install if you know what you are doing. I could see it being a struggle if this was your first engine mod.
I also dropped from the top, but I had my SO under the car to make sure they were not hitting anything.

i looked at texasspeeds and I've seen lots of favorable reviews. But and this is a big but. China.

That said. I've also read recently that some lg/Borla's stuff is made overseas, But I haven't seen them admit it publicly. I LOVE a good deal but Chinese stuff on a vette just seems wrong.

As for install, I cut my teeth years ago on an boat anchor lt1 fbody, and most recently my sbrc sierra thats getting a 4l80 swap. So I'm hoping that Headers on the vette should be fairly straight forward.

Thank you for the feedback fellas, keep it coming!

I went with Kooks and they were very easy to install. I bought them from that same vendor. Fortunately my experience was better than most and although I waited about 7 weeks, I was initially told 4- 6 weeks since I chose the street version with the air tube connectors for the 1997-2000 model years and was having mine ceramic coated as well.

I chose Kooks for fit and ease of installation. I have absolutely no clearance issues with Kooks and the installation was relatively easy, using a lift and having the proper tools. The Kooks headers slipped right into place from underneath without having to remove the starter or lift the engine or undo the steering shaft. Mine are ceramic coated shiny silver. Ceramic coating is essential for keeping the under hood temperature cooler and for a nicer appearance. I recommend having headers ceramic coated and definately get some heat protection for the spark plug wires, starter wires and the brake lines. Summit Racing sells their own heat protection products for the wires and lines which offers the best protection imo and price.

So no one is running the TPS units? I was really hoping to get some feedback on them.

Ah well back to the drawing board.

Another vote for the Kooks (although that doesn't help with your TPS review).
Kooks are made about 30 miles from my house, so it seems like a natural.
Agree with the others about the benefit of ceramic coating.
By the way, the TPS site shows only about a $90 difference between the Kooks and TPS headers.
Hope you can find some good info on the TPS so you'll feel confident in whatever decision you make.

Every brand long tube header made for the C5 Corvette makes about the same power and sound. The main difference is the quality, fit and ease of installation which is how I based my choice. Most important to me was that they had to be made in the USA.

tps price includes the mid section. Kooks price is headers only then another 4-600 for the mid section. But if you know where to buy kooks with mid pipes for around that price, please point me in that direction!

that last part is pretty high up on my list as well. I wish I could get a confirmation on where the borla/lg stuff is made.

I've been talking to Steve at RDP a CF vendor, he quoted me $906.00 for jet coated 1 3/4" Kooks today. $550.00 to install at shop in Cleveland Ohio. That quote was given to me today. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on them, depending on how long it takes to get them. That's my .02 cents. Rick

Well, I had TPS installed buy mistake ( belonged to another car), When my LG Pros we’re finally installed...it was like night and day! With the TPS, you could not really hear that you had headers.
I had my LG’s sent direct to ‘JET-HOT’ for ceramic coating. Also am running ‘Random Technology ‘ Cats, X pipe, into Borla Stingers.

Sorry - didn't catch the mid pipes being included in the TPS price. Kooks are occasionally listed in the C5 Parts for Sale section of the forum, at good prices, but still may be a little higher than the TPS.
Best wishes.
