Hi, so as the title states, I'd like to learn to learn more about the c5. I'd also appreciate it if you guys could give me an estimated value of the car (that I will tell you about in the next sentence). So my grandmother has an '02 C5 convertible. It is millennium yellow with a black interior, and I believe it has every option available. It has sport seats, which seem to be some sort of option, as I've seen some c5s with cheapo seats. Hers are very nice. They move in 16 directions. It also has an HUD, automatic dual zone ac, memory seats, 12cd player, almost everything is power except the seat backrest. I believe it has the z51 package, I remember her saying something about it. it also has the chrome rims. Does anyone know all of the options on the c5? Anything I missed? Anybody know msrp of one of these? How rare would her car be? She is always threatening to trade it in, but at this point it is virtually worthless so I always try to convince her to keep it. Does anyone know a rough value for it? Everything works except the windscreen washer. There is a small tear in the driver's seat driver's side bolster, and the backrest kinda leans to the left a little. She daily drove it for the first half of its life, then it has pretty much sat in a garage ever since. It has a little over 55k miles, and is pretty well in pristine condition. Has a nice thundery exhaust that still manages to be humble. Another thing I never knew about her car is the custom hand-painted corvette logo. The embossed part of the bumper is red. Where it says "corvette". Engine cover also has that red bit, but I believe it is stock. I really don't want her to get rid of it. Corvettes have a special place in our family. The first car my cousin ever drove was her first custom '99 c5 coupe, and the first car I ever drove was this car. One more note that may effect the value, some idiot rear-ended her when the car was still newer, but it was professionally repaired. you would never know if you weren't told. You simply can't tell. So just to recap. How rare is the car? How valuable is the car? What were the original options? What was the original msrp? Sorry for the book. I am new here, and this is my first post. I would love to stay an active part of this community, and at some point I would also love to own a corvette myself.
Sounds like your grandmother has a nice car. I wouldn't consider the car to be rare. Value is very dependant on condition and location. The accident will depreciate the car a little bit it really depends on the buyer. Some will care, others will not. Take a look at the NADA guides and local ads to see what the market is. Remember that dealerships raise prices to cover overhead and leave room for negotiation.
As far as the seat leaning to one side, the seat latches can get out of sync. Try moving the seat bottom to the most rearward position. Then using the seat back release button behind the headrest rotate the seat back to the steering wheel. Do the same thing with manual seat tilt lever on the side of the seat. Try this a couple of times each.

All of the options that came on your grandmother’s car are listed as 3-digit codes on a sticker inside the glove box door. Take a look at the sticker then look at my post in the following thread for an explanation for what they mean. If you still have questions, just post them up and someone will get you an answer.
In addition, there are a number of Sticky threads located at the top of the page in the C5 General and C5 Tech Sections that will give you more information about the car. Read them as part of your learning process.
And I will agree that the car is not rare, but sounds like a nice car that just needs a few things fixed.
KBB says the selling price range for a private seller is $12,700-$15,600 and for a car dealer offering some kind of warranty the range is $15,100 to $17,700 for a well optioned '02 Yellow Convertible with a Z51 suspesion, automatic transmission and 55K miles in excellent condition with a clean title. Due to the accident history and from what I have seen these cars selling for I think it should sell somewhere around $13.5k-$14K if it's really nice, but less if it needs tires, a new top or any work. It always helps if you can provide the maintenance history to the prospective buyer along with the accident repair bill for a car with an accident history. Unfortunately a C5 Corvette Convertible is not a rare automobile.
Thanks! Next time I see the car I'll check for the sticker. The link I posted is one that is pretty much identical to her car, except it does not have the little ride adjuster **** thingy. I'm pretty sure it is just blank there. I believe the plate cover corvette logo is also red like the one in the listing. Was that a popular thing to have done? Hers does not have the pin-striping like that one does, nor the yellow emblem on the steering wheel.
Side Question: Was the steering wheel in the C5 used in any other GM products? It seems fairly similar to the one in the Deville. I also really love the steering feel of the c5. very nice.
I think $16K-$17K is the right price for your Yellow '02 Convertible with a clean title, no issues and 55K miles however I think that the accident report will hurt. The problem is that there so many low and lower mileage C5 Corvettes with clean titles out there to choose from for the same price or not much more. Not saying that your car is not a nice looking fun ride, it is. Maybe start at $17,500 and see what happens locally. Some buyers don't want to travel and will only purchase local cars. There are C5's in the $20k-$25K range but they are mostly 6 speed manual C5's, '98 Pace Cars, Anniverary Editions or Z06's/Z16's with under 25K miles.
FWIW, I doubt it has "chrome wheels" as the 2002 never came with them. It's most likely polished aluminum. Polished properly they appear to be chrome. There is nothing 'rare' about any 2002 Vette. A Z06 has a bit more value than a coupe, and some convertibles bring a bit more than coupes.
If the 'accident' has been reported to Car Fax, it will keep some buyers away, although a rear end collision that doesn't damage the frame, is a pretty easy fix, and should have no lingering affects on the car. The location of the car will have an affect on the price, as thy are more expensive than in others. The season also affects the value. I'm in the range of 13-18K depending on area, damage to seats, mileage, condition of paint, tires etc. Good luck.
There isn't really such a thing as a "rare" corvette (minus certain special editions), I meant to ask if the color/option combination was one that was particularly uncommon, or if anyone knew specific production numbers of colors.
For 2002, 1,663 (13%) of all Corvette Convertibles were painted Millenium Yellow.
Magnetic Red Metallic was also painted on 13% of the verts. Other colors on the 2002 verts were Speedway White (7%); Pewter Metallic (8%); Quicksilver Metallic (11%); Electron Blue Metallic (11%); Torch Red (18%); and Black (19%). So four other colors were more unique than MY.
There were a total of 12,710 C5 convertibles for the 2002 model year.
As for upholstery, 66% of all verts had black interior.
Still, it sounds like a nice looking and well cared for car. Hopefully you can convince her to keep it and then even persuade her to sell (or give) it to you!
(Not sure why Corvette is being underlined in the first sentence but can't delete it. No significance to the underlining).

Thanks! I doubt she will sell it (I hope not, at least), it is more of just an empty threat....maybe. "vert" is a combination of "corvette" and "convertible", correct?

You are "vert" means convertible.
Some guy said there are no "rare Vettes", of course there are, just not rare C-5 Vettes.
Certain colors may be more scarce than others, but when discussing Vettes, "rare" generally means low production along with very high prices reflecting that scarcity.
For example a 1967, L88, or L89 is both scarce and very expensive.
A fairway green C-5 is scarce, but not overly expensive.
