Owned both at the same time. 2 different animals. 6z is a monster while the 5z is simply a beast.
The taller gearing (and the torque to pull it) plus 7k redline leaves the c5 further behind gear after gear.
That being said the 5z is more pleasurable (for me) on small country roads. Sold the 6z.. still have the 5.

stock for stock a c6z will roast a c5z but the c5z is just as easy to mod and you can turn that around real quick, it just depends how much money you want to spend... trans gearing on the c6z is the same as the base c5, the c5z is lighter than the c6z... whichever you prefer is up to you, don't get it to please someone else or you might end up disappointed

I can only repeat the impressions I have gathered from reading about the cars, I only go for a convertible vette for my needs, but I am the curious type and have read a lot of information about the C5 this child will never use.
I get the impression the C5 design is mechanically slower on the track, but easier to drive fast than the C6 design., less twichy around the limits is the report. I see more C5 class winners pictured on the track, but that could also be the time spent developing the car , and not so much about the design. i do read reports about the C5 steering racks getting hard to find, the racers keep bumping the track curbing , and wearing them out, along with the easy supply of used parts, rebuilding is often asked about.
for a street car, none of that matters. newer is better for the people who vote with their wallet, or GM wouldn't have bothered , the C6 interior is a touch smaller , if you consider that a step backward. Most all report the car is an upgrade from the C5, a C5, 2.0 version in computer speak.

C5Z is more reliable and doesnt have the huge design flaw in the heads like the C6Z has with the LS7 heads ($2,000+) fix.
Not to mention C5Z is lmost half the cost. I had the funds to buy either but it was a no brainer to get the C5Z. No regrets.

If you ask the C5 Z guys almost all will tell you the C5 Z. If you ask the C6 Z guys almost all will tell you the C6. These are 2 very different cars. I personally own a C5 Z so therefor it gets my vote. However the C6 Z with the LS 7 is a literal monster it does have its' downfall with its' heads but this is a relatively easy fix just figure in a minimum of about $1500 to $2000 to have the heads fixed. For me it was a difference in styling however having said that I pulled the LS6 out of mine and installed a LS 7 with headers, a ported stock intake and ported stock throttle body AHP package 4 heads with street porting a relatively small cam an a good tune car produces 550 RWHP and 512 RWTQ I feel as if I have the best of both worlds. The LS 6 was quick but the lightly modded LS 7 is just down right violent when you put the right foot to it. My suggestion is to drive both cars and then pick the one that you like the best after that mod it to your own personal taste. or just drive it the way it is you won't go wrong with either car.

One of the really huge advantages the C6Z has is it's aluminum chassis. It sheds a lot of weight and helps with the overall weight balance of the car.
I'd echo a post above. If a C5Z is a beast a C6Z is a monster, or in another way the C5Z is the mid-way boss and a C6Z is the level's final boss.

Thanks guys for all the great info, I have owned my C5Z for 10 years has 29k miles, and feel its a great car, and very reliable. my mods are lg headers, CAI ,160 stat , original TI catback, DRs , nice tune
makes 397 RWH, runs 12.1 best time 1/4 mile. .Was thinking about the C6Z but they seem to have some issues, they are faster. I love the gearing of the C5Z, some day I will test drive a C6Z
but at this time I will keep my C5 Z

I have both. I've owned my C5Z for the last 10 years and it's not going anywhere. The C6 Z06 makes my C5 Z06 feel slow. The LS7 pulls hard and can get you into trouble quick. I think the C6 Z06 shifts better but I like the steering feel of the C5 Z06 better. The C6 Z06 handles better and the brakes are better. The stock exhaust sounds better on the C6 Z. As for weight..the C5 Z06 comes in according to GM at 3116. The C6 Z06 comes in at 3132. Both are excellent. Good luck!

C5Z - no TPMS to deal with when it comes to multiple sets of track wheels!
Overall I like the looks of the C6Z better, but you can't beat the C5Z for performance/$. I love my C5Z and never plan to sell it!

I like the looks of the c5z a little better but would have went for the c6z but didn't want to spend over 30k. The extra hp and just being newer, but 3 years ago when i bought my c5z a c6z was 35k or more. I can say i'm happy with the c5z, it's an absolute blast to drive.
