Car Shows - Who goes?
Two weeks ago, (same as 20016) I got 1st place in my class, at my favorite local car show, the Chico Concours d'Elegance. Not a lot of competition in my class, (V-3 Corvettes). C4s an a couple years of C5. Since I got my first Corvette, I have enjoyed competing for those 1st, 2nd, sometimes 3rd place and sometimes "no Place" award plaques. I enter 3 or 4 local shows each year. I enjoy showing off the car, especially to the kids. Kids love to have their picture taken next to the Corvette. Well behaved kids are invited to set in the car, for pictures.---------------- ---------------------------- I don't see much conversation about Car Shows, here. Wondering if very many owners of C5s, enter their cars.

Not me. I go to an open for charity show once every 2-4 years, but have no interest in entering mine, nor in contests at all TBH.

Hey Pacecar.... Nice C5, Is it an FRC? If so, I have one like it too. Glad you do well and have fun with it. I do go to car shows locally, as well as the Friday night Drive-in where all the car guys hang out. It's quite a mixture of performance cars of all vintage. Most of them enter the car shows. Even though I go to some of the car shows, I never enter. Don't have the patience to sit there all day, plus, if my C5 is beside a nice 40 Ford , a 57 Chevy or a full blown Street Rod, they never look at my car??? But I'm a car guy in general, so it's fun to look.

I've only been to one car show this year. I usually make 2-3, but my interest in them has diminished in the past year. I still go to local cruise nights, which I am finding is a lot more fun. But if you like the car show events, keep on attending. You can meet some great car enthusiasts there.

I used to go all the time with a previous vehicle. I have been twice this year, one in the spring and Corvette Invasion in Austin during summer. I'm gonna try and hit up one more this fall.

That is a beautiful FRC. Mine is the couple. ------------------------ At shows, I often end up parked next to some really kool 40s and 50s class A hot rods. For popularity, they have me beat, hands down. But there are many people who still enjoy seeing our Corvettes. So I like to show them the car. My desire to, someday own a Corvette started when our family doctor made a house call to our home in 1953 or maybe 1954. (can't remember, so sure, but could have been the first year) I was 9 years old. He showed me the Car, Let me set in in it. Forty five years latter, I got one. I'm just paying it forward! As for Friday night drive-ins --- that sounds like fun! Thanks for your comments................

I go to a few every year. Especially if they are fund raisers for a good cause. I'm like Vetteman though in that I've kind of been getting more enjoyment from the local cruise in. Weather here isn't cool enough to enjoy being outside just yet though. The reason for me going to them is to visit with people and see some cool vehicles.
Congrats on the award by the way!

I'm the show chairman for our local club's show and I enjoy it because it's a charity event. Our club/show has brought in close to $25K over the past five years in support of the Honor Flight Network, so basically, our local Corvette community has been responsible for helping 10 local World War II veterans achieve their Honor Flight to Washington DC over that time period.
With that said, I usually participate in four Corvette-only shows each year in support of the other local area clubs and their sponsored charities that support our show. If there is no sponsored charity, I usually skip it. Over the years, I've won my fair share of trophies, however I agree with what others have said that I enjoy cruise nights and non-judged car events more and more each year and tend to care less about judged shows.
It takes a lot of work by many people to coordinate a good Corvette show and I find it sort of sad when people enter their Corvette into a show, detail it, and then sit in a chair next to their car all day. To each their own, however for me, the fun of a Corvette show is checking out other Corvettes and meeting other owners. Plus most cruise-ins I attend are open to all cars, not just Corvettes, which IMO makes it more fun.

Like many others we enjoy attending some of the local cruise nights - virtually all of these are non-judging events.
Even though we are still slowed up from a head-on collision a while back, we like to get out and see the other cars. Plus, in my head, I create and win every contest!
Once we can clean the car up a little better and get it more show worthy again we might try some contests, but like others have suggested they have to be related to a charity. Just our preference to not pay entry fees if the fees don't help a charity - usually either kids' related or something to assist combat wounded warriors; events such as Toys for Tots or Vettes for Vets.
OP: Very nice looking C5; congratulations on your awards, and I especially like your thing about letting well behave youngsters sit in your car!

Mine is a DD with 100k miles. The car is sharp but I don't care for Corvette shows with all the garage queens winning. I prefer open shows for a charity and cruise ins. I like seeing other cars, not just all Corvettes.
