Default header questions

I have a set of kook's 1 7/8" headers ordered with jet hot coating. what insulation are people using on the heater hoses, ac lines, battery cables? Is there a reflective barrier I should put on the plastic around the battery and fuse box area? Is everyone still using the spring hose camps or did you go to the worm style to make it easier to wrap? Yeah, I know a lot of questions but I only want to do this once and NOT burn anything up. I did a search but only seemed to find older threads. Heat shielding technology has changed over the years. Don't want to use something antiquated. thanks for taking the time to read and respond. Steve

I'm not sure you need to do anything special and really don't need to do anything at all.

Headers are not "hotter" than stock exhasut as exhaust temp is exhaust temp. What you have is just more heat as headers just have more surface area. However, once the engine is off, they cool much faster than factory manifolds.

I think that you are good with not doing anything. as long at you are not sitting and idling for a long time.normal driving and normal airflow will disperse the heat pretty effectively.

I'd worry more about your spark plug wires than any of the other components.

I used thermotec adhesive heat wrap on the starter body, solenoid, and wiring going to the starter... using that same stuff in the tunnel area and on the tunnel plate itself is also not a bad idea in my opinion

misread ur post, was under impression you were asking if to coat or not vs heat shield. Jet hot is ceramic coat, just labled different thats all. Good choice! Youll be fine as is.

My headers are ceramic coated and I have heat socks for the spark plug wires, velcro reflective heat protection for the starter wires and the brake lines and reflective heat tape for electrical connectors. I used Summit Racing brand heat protection for the wires, connectors and brake lines which offers the best protection at a great price.

I have already ordered the dei starter heat shield. looking at the dei socks for the plugs. any name brand on the velcro reflective heat protection? I was looking at the velcro lava wrap. (i think that's what it is called) its very pricey- worth the cost?

Forgot to add , is it worth putting any reflective material on the battery, fuse box liner?
