You can buy TechII's on Alibaba NIB for $350 shipped. Then you just pay GM's extortion for access to the service programming system and you're on your way.

I bought a knockoff tech 2 and programmed out my F45, the 300 or so you pay for the chinese knockoff is well worth it, There are so many things you can test with it on your car, it saved me a ton of money so far diagnosing various issues. That and a tuner will make your corvette ownership experience be very satisfying!

Any more information on this and the GM service programming.

You buy them from the website alibaba, or just do searches for it.

A guy over in C6 tech said he's just purchased one this past week for $274/FS. You might ask him where his came from. That's a lower price than even I got 2 years ago.

As to the "Knock-offs", they're the same tool, just not given the GM blessing. Precisely the same tool. It'll come with all the stickers in a pack and you have to apply the stickers yourself. Part of the licensing agreement I'd guess. It's the real deal. Just $1000s less.

From there, to use it for service programming, you need to pay a subscription fee to GM. Just search that online. You pay for 3 days, a week, or month or year. You'll only need that rarely, but to flash new PCMs and such, that's a necessity. Just about everything else the tool requires no online assistance for.

Here's the post in C6. Maybe PM this guy.

This info is not quite correct.

You only need to pay the subscription fee for c6+ as its all 'cloud' based through the acdelco website. For the C5 you can use 'tis2000' application with a crack that 'most' of the dodgy Chinese clones come with. I think you can use tis2000 with some early c6's as well but I am not certain on that one.

You can also bypass the entire tech2 cloan and use a crack for the 'tech2win' application which is backwards compatable with the c5. If you use 'tech2win' you can just buy a generic mdi2 interface card and access everything. Note with tech2win you will still need tis2000 or the subscription service for service programming features, but not for general troubleshooting.

If you used to tis2000 and you actually got the cracks to work, then good for you. I've seen lots of people say it's possible because they read about it but I have yet to see anybody who's actually done it.

I could be mistaken but I think you will find the days of those cracks working are over. I will happily stand corrected though if someone can show me otherwise. For me, I needed to have the VIN number changed on a PCM and the only way to do that was to pay the three day subscription fee to the service programming and connect online and program the car.

I will say this for people who are considering it. The people at ACDelco in tech support were way more than helpful and had no problem with me being a Joe off the street with a clone Tech 2 programming a PCM. They just want their subscription fee. I did have several calls that I made that were all free or at least included with the subscription. I was actually disappointed that I didn't have more stuff to do because once I was done I had two days of subscription to do nothing with.

Fair enough, I was able to upgrade the ecu on my '97 camaro and '99 c5 using tis2000 and a crappy laptop. I know cutting corners like this is probably not ideal but here in NZ I cant just go to a chevy dealer and get help, since there are none.

The acdelco subscription fees are pretty insane IMO

well you're the first guy I've heard of that actually got any of that stuff to work. When I tried in 2016 to use tis2000 it absolutely wouldn't work for me. Seems to me it was something to do with the version of Windows and possibly an outdated Java. It strikes me I loaded some wonky version that there was only one version number that would work and I eventually gave up and just programmed the PCM. I was also concerned with bricking my PCM since none of the reman places were carrying my part number. A year older or a year newer and I could go to AutoZone and grab it off the shelf but of course mine had to be special.

if you can show him how that works, by all means have at it.

Yeah its definitely a 'do at your own risk' kind of thing, I risked it and it worked fine. If my cars were worth a lot I wouldn't have done it probably.

I think I might have been the person you communicated with. I have a GM Tech II and I have offered to help people out with their issues. I am in Sussex county which is up near Port Jervis, NY. I should probably take a look at my unit, I haven't needed it in a long time. You can't go much further than where I live and not be another state.
