I just put my coupe away for winter and I have a laundry list of things I want to do In the offseason.
i don't usually drive at night but the few times I have it has been an issue. I was going to upgrade my fogs but I'm not sure whether to buy an hid or an led kit.
Any suggestions?
Those are plenty bright, completely plug-and-play (get the 800 series) and they use heatsinks rather than fans (silent operation and no moving parts to fail). No need to deal with ballasts and less heat than HIDs.
To each his own,
I have been running HIDs in my fogs for many years and the light output is great as is the beam cut off.
I run my fogs every night that I drive, and that is several times a week. I have had no issues with overheating and have only replaced the ballasts and bulbs once and that was to move from 35 watts to 55 watts. Just don't cheap out on your ballasts
Color matches RFs bi-xenons. I would not suggest using them in place of headlights, but they do light the road immediately in front of the car significantly better than the OEM fogs.
Truly plug and play. no need to change the lenses/housings, no ballasts, etc.
I would do LEDs, and it had nothing to do with how well it lights road. Instant on with approach lights is much nicer, and the flashing to lock won't kill LEDs like it would HIDs. I never use my fog lights unless it is in the dusk hours and I am almost home, or I plan on only doing a short night drive. Also, I did a full replacement with Morimoto XB LED universal fog lights.
i have the led fog light housing replacements in my 2015 denali sierra from the retrofit source... like hid headlight bulbs the led's will only work as well as the housing they are in will allow them too..with the said i am very pleased with my led fog lights but they were made for that housing setup....i.e not in a stock fog light housing complete aftermarket setup...

i was one of the early adapters of the HID fogs matched up with my bi-xenon ACA HIDs and rear Halo LEDs and corner LEDs w/ switchbacks. The improved lighting really modernized the C5.
i started with 55W HIDs for the fogs, but I found them A little too bright and the load was higher than the recommended 35W so I swapped the bulbs and ballasts.
I don’t used my fogs that often and usually use them more to be seen at dusk vs. improved visibility. In the event my ballasts fail, I will probably make the switch to LEDs.
