I agree 100% with the premis of this thread. The C5, imo, is the idealized corvette shape. It has perfect proportions, the curves and lines are right on, and it’s the most comfortable and usable corvette ever made by a huge margin. I think Chevy made a huge mistake when they decided to make the corvette a track car instead of the more all around sports car that the C5 perfected. That started with the 6, now we have transformers and a mid engine super car coming that will be useless to most Vette fans in the real world. To me, the C5 may well be the last real Vette. I just can’t see a use or need for any of the newer generations. We can load up weeks worth of bags and drive my C5 in real comfort all day long. I wouldn’t give that up for anything!

to be fair none of these cars are of much use on the road, they are toys. Not sure about the 7, but the 8 has a fair amount of luggage space as well.
I love the design of both the 7 and 8. They are both beautiful cars. The C5 FRC are the best looking in my opinion, but id happily drive a 7 or 8. The C6 didn't really do it for me though. In fact, it's the only generation that doesn't. I'd prefer a 4 over the 6, I think an 84 would be cool to own someday.
Here is my 2002 along side my 95 C4. I like the look of the C4 with the hardtop so instead of always taking it off for the summer I just bought the 2002 so I would have two choices.
I bought my C5 in 1997. It was a quantum leap over what came before. Styling great - except for the rear end, where I always thought they sort of gave up. C5's were the first Vettes to have a genuinely torsionally stiff frame - a prerequisite for decent handling - as against the old "flexible flyer" Corvettes. Next model of any significance is the C8. The 6's/7's were little more than modified C5's. If I was not old with creaky joints, I would buy a C8 in a heartbeat, but the reality is getting in and out of my C5 is problem enough! Of course, C8's are auto only. Having many years ago been a vehicle designer, I know only too well how difficult it is to provide a decent shift linkage for a rear mounted transaxle, but they could have at least tried.
I love the profiles of both my C5 vert and my C7Z. I think both generations are very photogenic. Something I think the C8 suffers from as most I've seen look better in person than in pics.

Found this photo op, when I finished with Golf today.
When C7 first came out, many didn't like the newest Corvette, the rear (Camaro like) end, or the lines of the car. I was not one of them. I liked the C7, from the outset, in regards to aesthetics. But, that did not make me appreciate (love) the beauty of my 2003 SuperCharged C5 one bit less. I still believe the lines of C5 are timeless, and with updates in power & suspension, this car is and will remain relevant, in any Sports Car / Performance discussion. I have the exact Corvette I want! I've had it for a long time, and I wanted it for a long time, before I found it.
I love pictures of C5 Corvettes next to other generations of Corvette, other Sports Cars, muscle cars, and the like. What photos have you got, in kind, to add to these I've started with? Let's see 'em !!!

Beautiful C5. Those wheels work really well on it.
