I have a 2003 Z06 with almost 90k hard miles. Since the day I bought it with 25k miles I always could smell something burning when running the car at high RPM and more specifically when letting off and letting the car engine brake at high rpms. The other day I got a low engine oil light about 50% in the the 7500 mile interval. I added about 3 quarts thinking it was severely low and it went way over the full line. I suspect it only need a quart/quart and a half. Anyone know how low the oil needs to get for the light to come on
I know these cars have PCV system that takes the oil blow off and burns it in the engine. I was just curios if others experience the oil burning as well. Note the ring flutter issue was fixed before 2003

The only time mine burned any oil was when I crossed South Dakota. 350 miles at 80 to 90 MPH with 95 to 105 degree outside temps. It was down a quart and the low oil light came on.
Awesome thanks for the replies. I moved into town so now most of my driving is twisty roads and on/off ramps. Never had this issue cruising lower rpms on the highways
Mine uses some, but I do drive it frisky. However, it sits most of the time in the garage, and when I start it I'll get some blue smoke from the exhaust. I suspect it's just some drip down from sitting , as it doesn't smoke when started any other time. But your question is good. I do occasionally put a half a quart in, but never paid any attention as to how many miles between doing such.

I would say a quart every 3-4K miles would be about right with spirited driving thrown in. On mine, hard to say as I just do not put enough miles on the car each year to really show any oil usage. And yes, I need to get it out of the garage more and drive the thing.
