Track spec hood vents

Track spec hood vents
I love the look of the track spec center hood vent. Anyone running them on a street car. Just wondered about rainy days. Not that I really drive it in the rain. But in SW Florida you always have that chance of rain just about every afternoon. Especially during the summer.

I’m interested in these for my track car, but I think rain is a legitimate concern.
Discussed it with my buddy who runs a speed shop. He has them on his drag racer, and refuses to expose the car to rain. But he has an enclosed trailer to shield the car if weather turns bad during a race weekend; my trailer is open.

I know there are some owners on the forum that have installed the hood vents. Sorry but I can't think of their user names right now. Hopefully they will see this thread and add some input.

I found the concept intriguing, but the lack of photos or reference problematic, so looked up both the website and a thread where the OP indicated he didn't find any problem through a rain filled track day. He also said he was going to fabricate a rain tray, but there doesn't appear to have been any follow through on that. His turned out very pretty. Love the look.

Burning Brakes
I have one on my ‘99 FRC. Drilling the first holes was a bit concerning. I did it on the car because I was working by myself and didn’t want to try removing and reinstalling the hood by myself.

Safety Car
Rain while driving with hood vents is not much of an issue if the air is venting out the hood. Raining with the car stationary would be more of an issue for me and rain hitting hot components like headers if it is driven, parked, then rained on. Hot headers and cool water cycle may have adverse effects.
Some will justify it by saying all connections are weather packed design with rubber grommets. A car with vents sitting in the rain should be no different than opening the hood and spraying with with water to clean it.

I run them on my C5. Drove 4 hours through the rain up to Watkins Glen with no issues. I garage the car, wouldn't tempt fate by leaving it stationary in the rain for a long period of time. When I wash the car I'm careful to spray water from the front towards the windshield, not in from the sides. I've had these for at least 4 years now, no problems

Thanks for the feed back. Looks like I will be ordering a set.

Just a heads up, from what I remember the kit comes with chrome rivets not black, a forum member was kind enough to send me some black ones he had left over from his install.

Here are a couple of mine. Yes make sure you get some black rivets for the install. I have had no water issues but like others have said I don't leave it uncovered when stationary.

Too bad they're so damn butt ugly. IMHO
Still kickin myself in the ***. When I bought my z back in 07, I saw the MCM heat extractor carbon fiber hood. The wallet said not now. Then when wallet was ready, after a "few" other mods, MCM was gone. Major bummer nothing close in quality or fit since.
A friend at the track had a high rise one, they were everything you've heard.
I keep dreamin one will show up in the classifieds... I'd be all over it.
