Even if you buy a unit off a salvaged car, it's going to happen again, if when not if on these cars. The only way to never worry about it again is to convert to the newer EBCM.

Just how much work is that ? that is why I say 2 grand because it has to be that much work ? The whole thing is stupid, what kind of deal is that Chevy ?
The person who bought the 1 owner triple black VERT auto 2004 with 31,000 miles for 15 has relisted it in the same town for 19,500.... I think they will be in for a rude awakening in this economy, if you are lucky it could bring 17 on EBAY.....
knocking 2k off is always a good idea, but doing it because the ECBM might someday fail sounds stupid. What if a tire would fail, better take off another $500.

Except tires are a wear item on every single car on the road. That EBCM is going to fail on that C5, there is no "might" it's "when". I don't think it's automatically worth $2000 off, you just have to convert it to the 01+ EBCM and rebuild it for $125 when that one breaks too. GM shafted us by not reproducing them.

The ECBM isn't a part that is for sure going to fail. There are plenty of people in this forum who own pre '01 models that have never had ECBM failures, and they may never have one fail...

Most don't drive their cars often, daily drive it, it'll break. Its not a coincidence that pre 01 EBCM's are hot ticket items and sell as soon as they get them. It doesn't even matter, it costs less to convert it to a newer EBCM than replace it anyways.
And just how much cost and labor to convert ? Considering all the updates to a 01 isn't 2 grand less than a 01 realistic ?
Say an 01 I would give 14 for I would only give 12 for a 2000 or earlier but if it was fixed with the proper upgrades I would pay more, alot of the 98 99 n 2000 look great....
