I want to mount a homelink sending unit in the sun-visor of my 2002 convertible or in the alternative replace the [TWIST OFF] mirror with one that has home link auto dim and map lights. Anyone done either of these ?? I need to know if anyone makes an adapter to convert a twist off mirror mount to the slip on type mount. I have more thoughts however this is enough for now HELP.

I bought a visor from a local salvage yard for $5 and removed the Homelink unit. Installed it myself, also fixed my visor's "floppy ear" while I was in there. Had a local person that does upholstery stitch it back up for me, looks factory.
Not sure how easy it'll be finding a Homelink mirror that'll work in a C5.
There are good threads on the Forum here with instructions for adding Homelink to your sun visor like MikeG37 who did an awesome job. I did this as well and I'm not real handy, but had no problem doing it. You can buy a used Homelink from eBay or from salvage yard. Good luck.
I have homelink built in to my rearview mirror. Not sure if the one I have is still made, it is by gentex and has map lights like factory. IIRC they were somewhat rare.
I bought a homelink from e-bay for $20, it doesn't matter what kind of car it came from. I think mine came a Lincoln. I slit the seam open and mounted into the factory cardboard inside the visor. I restitched it myself, I know how to sew. I had to use pliers to get the needle through the cardboard, it worked. I called Homelink. They told me how to set it up. Works great. The whole process took an afternoon.
Where do you connect the power of the Homlink in the visor? Vanity mirror tap?
Exactly, one of the best and cheapest mods out there. I liked it so much that I did it to my F150 also. Ford made it very easy, cut outs already there.
This was a fairly easy mod that gave great bang for the buck. I was glad to get rid of the garage door opener and the floppy visor ears.
I bought a used homelink off of ebay.
Hooked it up to a 9V battery to program it and make sure it worked.
Then spliced into the vanity mirror lights to install.
While you have the visor open, consider adding support for the floppy cardboard ends.
I tested it again before sewing the visor back up.
To hide my sewing and to provide even more floppy ear support, I bought leather visor covers off of ebay.
The black leather and red stitching matches my interior theme. Very happy with how this turned out.
