i am interested in a car in Nc. and am 800 miles away, and am wondering if anyone knows of a service where i can hire someone to look at the car, and check it out see if it is the value the vendor is asking for and any damages or anything strange. or am in the wrong section of the forum altogether.

I used Lemon Squad (https://lemonsquad.com/) a few years ago to inspect a car far away prior to purchase of an envoy from a few states over. We had a great experience. I assume it may vary a bit by inspector, but they have a very thorough checklist, and pricing was reasonable for the service. It was detailed down to pointing out panels that had been repainted, the brand and model of each tire, and tread depth (which in our case all 4 were different ugh). He also pointed out things like rear hvac/radio controls didn't work, air bag issue, and something else that the seller (small dealer) repaired prior to shipping the car to us. Those repairs more than paid for the inspection in our case.
I think the only thing we found wrong that he didn't point out was the light bulbs being out in the steering wheel controls and a few of the radio buttons. Probably no way to see that during a daytime inspection.
Overall -- i think they did a way better job than i would have done myself. I always miss a few little things when i look at car myself.

You're OK with the post here, but you may want to link this thread to one in the appropriate regional section of the forum. Might get some answers there too.
