Well... to be fair if you were to put your car on any modern dyno you're likely going to read nowhere near 350 HP anyways so everything you've been reading is nuisances at best. I'd be surprised on most Heartbreakers if most later LS1 C5s even reach 305 HP and owners of stock C5s often have hard times getting even a 300+ reading. You'd be surprised how much people have to spend just to get to that legit 350 HP rating at the wheels.
I'd be more worried about discontinued parts on pre-2001 cars than ~5 HP.
That's because the 345 or 350 hp rating is at the crank, not the rear wheels...of course it's going to be lower at the rear wheels...
What was the cam spec for 00? I know after we swapped the cam on my buddies 2002 we measured the cam base circle, then from the base to the peak of the lobe. Then subtracted the two measurements and multiplied by the rocker ratio of 1.7 we got almost exactly .500/.500 lift. From my understanding the 01+ had a higher lift and narrower (better) lsa, while the pre 01s had something like .472/.478 lift, with a wider lsa. And I think the duration was close to the same.
Anyways, that 5hp difference stock for stock is never going to be felt when driving, if it even truly exists in the first place. I've owned a stock 99, and I bought my 01 only 2 days after my 99 was totalled. The only thing you can slightly notice stock for stock is the very low end torque gain in the 01+ manual cars. And even that isn't too noticeble either. (Only manual cars because the tune for the automatics torque management is pretty strict for some reason, but it can easily be removed in in tuning.)
And to the OP, if you are really fretting over 5 HP. I recommend getting some headers and an X pipe, an intake, and a custom tune. That will be a difference you can both feel and hear! You'll love it!
Hell, a tune alone would probably net more than a 5 hp gain...
