Attempting to install a KENWOOD double din head unit and have the new VetteNuts version double din bezel. However, instructions and templates were not included, just some flimsy 3D printed plastic adjustable brackets that came with the bezel. I knew I had to cut/drill out the top bracket that held the OEM radio, but I’m still not sure if I have to cut/drill out the lower bracket as well. It appears that the HVAC control will need to be moved down, but again - no instructions or template provided.
The plastic brackets appeared and felt very flimsy, so I was very careful when installing screws through them, but the brackets broke anyway. I guess I’ll be attempting to build my own brackets out of metal from the hardware store tomorrow, which totally sucks as I am not sure how I’m going to fabricate them. Has anyone made their own? If so, how did you do it? Also, is it necessary to cut off the bottom bracket as well? The top one was a bit*h.
I’ll give is a shot Bill, thanks for the reply. Can I get by without hacking up the lower bracket or does it need to go too?
I honestly do not remember .. between my age and the drugs, I'm lucky I can find my way here everyday... I'm sure someone else will chime in. I did mine 4 or five years ago,,
Sorry

There is a guy a that sells purpose built double adjustable C5 corvette brackets on FLeabay.
I copied his design and it didn't turn out as well as I would have liked but that's on me. If I had it to do all over again his 50 bucks worth of professional brackets would be worth every penny to me.
These are NOT my pictures.

Yeah, I ordered his last set last night after my plastic ones broke. I just don’t want to wait forever for them to be shipped and was hoping to have this project completed this weekend. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
I recently installed a Kenwood DD into a Vettenutts bezel. I had the same problem with the plastic brackets so I made my own.
I used a couple of Simpson Strong-Tie 3-1/8 in. x 7 in. Tie Plates from Home Depot. All it took was drilling new holes that matched my Kenwood DD and the stock mounts in the Vette and some trimming of the angle brackets to fit. Not pretty, but they hold well.
Which angle brackets did you buy? Soo many choices there, I was just hoping to avoid the dreaded mount, test, re-mount, over and over. I hate having my car in pieces. But I have to say, that DD KENWOOD definitely rocks! Can’t wait to get it mounted and put that bezel on, it’s all I’m waiting for.
Actually, they were not angle brackets but tie plates that I bent one end on each to 90 and then measured and drilled the holes where they needed to be.
Took a while and would not win any beauty contest but they are rigid and should last a very long time. Sorry, but I can't find the quick pics that I shot of them. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson-...TP37/100375215
But since you already bought those nice brackets, I would use those.........I almost did the same. But I also couldn't wait to get it all back together ;^)

You can always fabricate something if you are gifted, but this would be the way to go... easy peasy.

So I got my fleabay C5 Double Din brackets this weekend. Here they are compared to my broken plastic brackets from VetteNuts -
Similar, yet different. The metal ones won’t brake and they have good slots, but still need to be modified to fit a VetteNuts bezel.
when you mount the metal brackets to the car, they cover the holes where the OEM and VetteNuts bezel have guide posts going into the car, so you have to do some cutting. Then when you try to fit your HVAC below the headunit, your HVAC will hit the bracket and won’t fit into its holes, so you have to trim some more.
Outer brackets are the culprits for both issues.
So, it is quality- but this seller sure gets you with Corvette Tax, twice! Charges you $50 for the brackets, then charges you $12 to ship when he is in no hurry to ship and the package said he only paid $3.95 to ship.
