Default Is New Assembly Needed with HID Kit

Good Morning,

I have had the worst trouble adjusting the height of the headlights on my 2001 C5. I followed the suggestions in other threads and lubricated the mechanism generously with PB Blaster. The goldenrod turns and starts to adjust, but with every rotation, there's a click and it goes back to the original position. I'm guessing that's it's broken somewhere in there.

I'm thinking about going ahead and upgrading to HID, but am wondering if I will still need to buy a new assembly in order to adjust the height of the HID lights or does an HID upgrade include a new mechanism for adjusting the height?

Also, I've been ordering my parts through CorvetteMods. Any suggestions for where to order my HID lights or is Corvette Mods a good place to get them. Here is the set I was looking at getting:
https://www.corvettemods.com/C5-Corvette-1997-2004-HID-Headlight-Low-Beam-Conversion-Kit_p_5530.html#

I am a brand new, first-time owner of a Corvette and could use all the guidance I can get.

Thank you in advance for sharing your wisdom with me.

Take a look at this very detailed write-up to free up the adjusting mechanism. Don't force it, it breaks easily.

No, unless you're gutting everything out to install non pop-up fixed headlights. The adjusting mechanism is part of the pop-up assembly.

STAY AWAY from Corvette Mods. There is a bunch of very negative threads in the Transactions and Feedback section. This section is at the bottom of the index page.\

For an excellent set of HID lights, check out the Radio Flyer website. George is a CF Supporting vendor and he has HID assemblies that are plug-n-play. You still keep the adjusting setup so you should really find out what's going on with the adjusting rods and threaded components. I bought a set of his HID lamps and it included new lamp housings just for the HID low beams.

Agreed with avoiding Corvette Mods. HID kits from any vendor except Radioflyer will cause excessive glare and/or poor light distribution. Radioflyer is the only way to go for a simple HID upgrade.

Boy did I make a mistake going to Corvette Mods. Their service is non-existent and their products, especially the fixed headlights are crap! Never again!!

This is what you want:

Do it right the first time, and you won't regret it.

I ended up purchasing the LED Fog Lights from Radio Flyer. Eventually, my plan is to fully upgrade to their non pop-up headlights. I think that's going to be the best option long-term.
