C5 Sport seat question
Hi , I have a1999 Corvette with standard leather seats both with power. I would like to upgrade to the sport seats. I found a set in good shape but they are for a Vette with a telescoping steering wheel and I have been told that its not a direct swap electronically, I heard that its easy to modify the new sports seat to work with my car. Has anyone ever done this and know how to make it work ?
Thx
Pete

Pete welcome to the forum I applaud your first post.
You do not have to buy sports seat... you can easily convert your standard seats.. all you need is sport seat foam. for both seats. about 250 dollars for both, ( 3 pieces per seat )and a set of sport seat skins.. about 500 dollars from www.ridies.com or a few other suppliers, and either your own skill to install them or an upholstery shop to remove the old skins and put in the new foam and install the skins
Good Luck and welcome.

In my case i have a 98 that i ordered with standard seats. I got a set of sport seats out of a 02 with memory. I don't know if it had telescopic steering wheel. My passenger seat was not power. I had a shop install them and they were able to power the passenger and install the memory seat. I do not have that function in my car. Every once in a while when i start the car the seat moves on its own. I stop it by touching one to the function buttons on the seat and it stops. I don't know how they did it but it is possible.

Thank you for the reply, I believe the sport seats that have memory have something to do with the telescoping wheel so when you get in the car the seats and the steering wheel adjusts themselves.

Thank you for responding to my question, so if I'm understanding this right , the frame for the standard seat and the sport seat is the same ?
Thank you very much

Yes, the frames are the same - the seat foams are different.

I think ET's recommendation is the better way to go though, not only because you won't be dealing with what are already old seats (regardless of how well a seat may "look" you don't truly know how well it "sits" until you actually sit in it) but you'll have both new cushion and upholstery.
