I have a 99 c5. I like the look of color matched wheels. Right now I have c6 replica zo6 wheels black. My car is pewter. How do I go about getting them painted to match? Is it just a spray job? I want something durable.
I have my wheels powder coated black. A powder coater can apply most any color they stock and while they may not have an exact color to your car they can find something close. Powder coating is going to be much more durable than anything you spray onto the wheel because the baking process of powder coating creates a much harder finish than a typical spray job. You won't have to worry about a bead being damaged during a tire install or a weight severely affecting a finish.
Prices are kind of all over the place to have the work done so you'll want to call around and see what it costs. Expect at the least in the $200-$400 range starting but it CAN get higher.
Well, mine was a 3 stage process. Since the CCWs were polished aluminum, they had to be etched first. Since I wanted to go candy blue like the C6 ZR1, first layer was 3 coats chrome powder, then 3 coats candy blue, then 3 coats clear. 1400 jobber... but that also includes doing my brake calipers in a different color as well.
