Default Shifter Insert Keeps Popping Out

My manual shifter pattern insert is somewhat loose and keeps popping out of the shifter. Does anyone have an idea of how to keep it tight or from popping up and out?

Factory ****? Maybe some sort of broken tab? Wrap a bit of black tape around the male part?

Yes, factory. This piece:

I'll try the electrical tape, see how that works.

It is just a pressure fit, so adding a little electrical tape around the edge may just tighten it up enough to stay put.
