Swear I just saw a Kooks catted mid section on the FS section. Otherwise buy a pair of Magnaflow or sim cats and have an exhaust shop get them in. Gonna cost you a few hundred for sure.
Edit, haha, that was you WTB, oops
A lot of guys have had very good luck with the inexpensive Thunderbolt hi flow cats that you can get on Ebay. Some say they work even better than the Magnaflows.
As grant suggested though I would go that route over buying a whole new mid pipe section.
Depending on who you inspector is though they may still give you a hard time as any of the high flow cats look nothing like a factory cat.

If you buy new aftermarket they should come with paperwork indicating that they are 50 state legal. Be sure and bring it to the inspection to be safe.
Just buy the Kooks catted pipe, bolt it in and go. By the time you F with a welder, and likely crappy weld quality because you are trying to save a $.37, you will be miles ahead knowing you have a product you can bolt in and go.
And if you want, you can just unbolt it, keep it in the garage, and put it back on next time you need an inspection.
www.jegs.com has some reasonably priced cats that you can cut out a section of pipe and slip in with band clamps. I think Flowmaster makes cheaper cats, around $50 each for 2 1/2" i.d.
