Default what to do?

Hi all. I just registered today after a few weeks of lurking. Drove a Z06 for the first time today and all I can say is wow. I think I will have a permanent smile for a few weeks. Here is my dilemna maybe you guys can help me out.

I deciced I was going to buy a new car a month or so ago. I had decided on a Nissan 350Z Track edition since I have always liked Japanese cars (No flames please ) and I thought it would be a capable performer on a road course. For those who don't know, the MSRP is around 36k with no negotiation. Then I saw used 02 Z06s for 38k. I knew right then that I couldnt justify buying a 350Z when I could get a Z06 for almost the same money.

So here is my decision now. Do I buy a used 02 or a new 03? I don't want an 01 since a co-worker of mine had an oil burner and I don't want to deal with the potential hassle. If I buy an 02 I would want it to have less than 5k miles. I think I could find one for slighty above 40k. However, I have heard of people buying new 03s for slightly above invoice, around 46k. If I buy new I could use 0% financing. If I buy used, the financing cost would most likely be a few thousand dollars. That makes the price difference between new and used fairly close. What are your guys thoughts on this? Can any dealer help me get a Z06 for close to invoice? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for your help.

Your dilemma is what is killing me right now while trying to sell a 3 year old coupe. Here's my take on your situation.

Can you afford the new one? If so, get it. NORMALLY I would say just the opposite, that an 02 with 5k miles would be a steal of a way to go, but with 0% financing, it makes sense to buy the new car.

One exception: if you are paying cash. Then, you get a great price on an 02, with taxes reduced or taken completely out of the equation, depending on your state laws.

Unless something has changed, 0% financing is only good for 36mos..... Go with the barely used one for 41k.
