[QUOTE=jackthelad;1598965489]That article, like other R&T C5 articles is mostly BS. One of them fixated on early cars having to have their TPMS system replaced, as "spares are not available", but completely failed to mention "minor" issues like the EBCM.

There are some C5's that fit the low mileage, not driven model, but most have higher mileage and at some point earned their keep. I bought mine new back in '97 - a very early build '98. I bought it as my daily driver to replace a warmed over Fox bodied 5.0 Mustang - also my daily driver. For some years, that's what I used it for - to/from work, the store, hauling lumber back from Lowes (the coupe will accept stuff up to about 9', I used to carry a pipe cutter when I picked up 10' lengths of plumbing pipe). Then I negotiated a sweetheart early retirement deal, so it was used a lot less. It now has 80k and change, and gets driven less. BUT it was never a garage queen. FFS, why buy a C5 and not drive it. As the saying goes, Drive it like you stole it.[/QUOTE

I know what your saying makes sense but sometimes i feel like just a caretaker for my '02 z, keep it covered 90% of the time, always checking the battery tender, prepping it for shows, still has 11k miles so drive time is way too little. I have no reasonable explation for this strange behaviour except possible mental illness. I'm now looking for another vette for a daily driver. The weird part is driving it is so much fun i should be doing it much more. I think waiting so long [was 66] to buy one warped my senses on this.

I thought I had read every article on the C5 and missed that one! Good read, thanks for sharing. My C5 is not for sale. I bought my Corvette a little over a year ago from a suburban Chicago dealership that specializes in "Corvettes and Classics." In fact, that is in their name. Their Corvette inventory by generation is currently as follows:

C1- 4 cars
C2- 7 cars
C3- 8 cars
C4- 4 cars
C5- 2 cars
C6- 4 cars
C7- 5 cars

The C5 Corvette is all the Corvette I want or need and I suspect I am not alone. I also think in terms of performance "bang for the buck" value it is very difficult to overpay for a C5. Anyone who thinks the C5 is yesterday's news- I would invite you to compare the "old C5" to the brand new Toyota Supra (or its companion BMW) which appears to be the current darling of the automotive press. In terms of weight, weight distribution, horsepower, torque and performance- the C5 holds its own.

Also, the car I bought from that dealership in December 2017- did not fit the profile of a garage queen. It had been well used with 97,000 miles (and well cared for); was for sale and it was bought.

Neat read and much truth in it. And have to say that my 03 Coupe is the most used out of 2 motorcycles , 1 truck and it. In fact, last year, my vette surpassed the mileage of the other 3 combined by a few thousand miles. I'll let my kids worry about what it's worth when I'm in the ground.

But you still have your sense of humor. I bought my C5 when I was 55. It's been driven every winter since except this one, mainly because at the start of winter, I was wrapping up a repair job, and the next thing there's snow on the ground here. C5's do not do well in snow, especially when you have to climb hills to get anywhere. Plus, I confess our latest "other" car is a total pleasure to drive - fast enough, AWD, very comfortable and very quiet. Long trips in the C5 do not beckon me at all these days, whereas a 400 mile haul up into Canada in the other car was painless. It even gets better highway gas mileage than the C5, despite it's undoubted weight - turns out it's drag co-efficient is less. Not bad for a big, comfortable sedan with north of 300 bhp, which only needs regular gas.
