Dash Cam recommendations?
Hi folks,
Looking to get a decent dash cam. Could use some recommendations, since there are so many out there and I'm not knowledgeable on them. Looking for good image quality, preferably low profile (don't want a bulky thing). Would be nice to have a auto-on, auto-record feature and built in G-meter. Not looking for anything crazy high end since my usage is just for fun mostly.

I’ve got an Aukey DR-01 ready to go into my truck. It’s not super small, but it had solid reviews on Amazon. I’m using a modified GoPro mount as my truck has a GoPro mount built into the windshield.
What I really like is that it’s has an optional hardwire kit that uses the OBD2 port to power the camera. As such it will automatically turn on and off with the car. Allegedly the hardwire kit also has a motion turn on feature so there’s that as well.
Maybe eventually I’ll put a dash cam in the car. I’ve mounted my GoPro in the rear hatch a few times for fun to get the dash view.

Rexing V1, available at Amazon. My son has been using it for a couple years now with good success. He went through a few different brands that failed. It saved his *** a few months ago when a lady, or should I say bitch, ran a red light and T-boned him. The next day she had a lawyer and started a lawsuit saying he blew the red. Well, surprise, surprise he had a video. Without the video of her going through the red light, it would of been a fight. He bought my wife and I one for our cars as Christmas gifts, will not drive without it now.

Thinkware F70 with GPS. Pisses me off the GPS antenna is separate, but I was able to hide everything for it behind the rear view mirror and it's totally inconspicuous

I use a camera called PomCam that now is sold under a new name Windshield Witness. The camera has operated great.

I have the mini-805p (I think). There are several earlier models, and I think a newer updated version or two of this DashCam, on Amazon and elsewhere.
I had an earlier model, the mini 801 I think. It quit working after 3 or more years. I read and learned that the earlier dash cams had little batteries to save settings, that would actually 'fry' from outside solar heat, after a long time. These newer ones have 'a capacitor' instead, which is not supposed to be adversely effected in the same manner. They claim it has over-temperature protection. (I"m not an electronics guy, so I have to take them at their word.)
I mounted it behind the mirror, on the passenger side. It's completely out of view, of the driver. So, it's not a distraction in any sense, while you are driving (as was my intention). Also, it sits in 'the shaded area of the windshield', so it's not easily seen from the outside. Of course, if you are looking for it, you can see it from outside.
I hard wired it under the passenger foot well.
Seems fairly easy, to reach over, and with your thumb-nail pop up, then drop-down, remove the mini SD card to take in to the computer to occasionally format, or to view/download videos.
Seems quite moderately priced, with pretty good video, day or night.
Don.

I bought a Garmin 35 for the DD a few years ago. It is still working so I don’t feel the need to change it even though by now there are probably better options out there.

I have a DashCam F800Pro installed, it is about 2 x 4 inches. It starts recording when you turn your car on and is HD, also have the rear camera. The camera will tell you when you are approaching a camera (don't know about radar guns). There is no external antenna. The cost is about $550 for both and another $200 for install (depending on area where you live).

I've got a Uniden dashcam I bought on sale for $39 before Christmas. Seems to work well although I have to convert the .AVI files.
Here's a tip: Regardless of the brand, Reformat the SD card in your dashcam every couple of weeks.
I also turn OFF the G-sensor as potholes in the road will trigger the units into thinking a collision has occurred.
Which is why, occasionally looking for the RED BLINKING LIGHT to confirm your dashcam is actually recording is a good idea.
Lastly, no matter what anyone tells you, 1080P is insufficient to record a LEGIBLE license plate.

GoPro Hero 7. You can turn on and off by voice, power button, etc. Has vibration control and is water proof down to 30 ft. Just used it in a trip to Hawaii both on the dash and snorkeling. Nice and small.
