Default Metris Double Din Mount

I reciently had a pioneer NEX4400 double Apple car play radio installed in my 2002 convertible. I ordered a metris double din dash install kit from amazon. The problem I have is the passenger side of the kit will not allow for my lower dash towards the gear shifter to tuck in under the new kit. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what is the fix?

It looks like your HVAC controls weren't drilled and mounted in the right position. I wonder if the metra can't lay right with the pressure on the bottom of the opening.

Here is what my installer texted me about it. I told him I was ordering a replacement.

“There's no fin to fit into the slot on that side. I suspect a new one will be the same. It isn't broken or missing. “

HVAC controls have bosses that locate in holes so placement of that isn't optional unless something is broken. I suspect it's either not made correctly to fit proper, or he's got something holding it out of place. But I'd say the HVAC is in the right spot.

There should have been a template in the kit that shows you where to drill new holes and move the havoc unit down a bit. Check out this YouTube video on the install

Aside from that issue, how do you like the finish of your new bezel?

There should be a little tab that needs popped in down that side. You need to take the bezel loose again and you will see it. Had the same thing on mine.

Thanks for linking that!! I will be using the vette nuts bezel, but the video was great for all of the other aspects of installing a radio in the C5

it is only OK, the texture and color does not match 100%. You would think for the money I paid, it would match better.

It's a Metra? Should have run around $190-$200, no? Seems to me I've read of a member or two using upholstery paint to achieve a better color and gloss match.

My metra has the same issue. Mine looks closer but it's definitely off a bit. The texture and color is not a perfect match, for sure. I do like the open cup holder and ash tray spot better than the factory set-up...just a personal thing.

If you figure out a way to "narrow the gap" please post it up. Thanks!

I have the Metra and even though it's not a perfect match, I'm satisfied. The fit is perfect.

Good to hear. I just ordered a Metra kit, consol, radio, backup camera etc. Can't wait.

I had the same issue. It just took some finagling. I did have to file a tad on the opening for the touchscreen to get the stereo to sit right inside the bezel (probably the stereo's fault). The finish doesn't bother me. It's a solid product. My only issue is the opening for the 12v outlet is small. I got a small 12v outlet that was just barely too small. Opted for a larger one and I'll do some fancy work to get it in there, if we can get some decent weather on a day off...

Got my stereo finished up tonight. Very happy with the fit of the metra bezel, and the stereo performance. It's a drastic improvement. Backup camera is excellent, and installed easily. Also replaced the cigarette lighter with a USB outlet and the Android auto is perfect.

Zero complaints and definitely recommend the metra bezel...hell it fits much better than the factory piece!

Default Radio

This install looks great. Hope mine goes this nice. What did you use for instructions for your install?

the video I linked above was the best thing going to be honest. The metra instructions are fairly decent as well, but that video was a huge help. Ultimately I’m most pleased with having a rear view camera as I live in a culdesac with a ton of kids and pets.

My only identified issue is the stereo doesn’t dim when I turn on the lights, but after more research is seems like maybe the C5 harness doesn’t have a wire related to dimming, however the hvac harness uses a yellow wire for lighting. I will try tapping into that in lieu of the orange wire in the stereo harness and see if that works.

Default Double din kit

Just received my kit today. Looks good so far. The only thing I noticed is the flat black finish. Not real crazy about it, Hopefully I can fix it. I've detailed enough cars that it shouldn't be a problem. Have watched that install video so many times that I think I could do this in my sleep. Lol
Will post results when I finish the project.

Good luck! today I noticed my stereo isn't perfectly aligned, so I am tearing it apart this afternoon to get it exactly where I want it. I hate when stuff isn't exactly right. Also, meguires natural shine protectant made the bezel match almost perfectly.

Post up when you are done!

Default Metra install

Video was very helpful so far. Only thing I find confusing is the hook up of the backup camera. Did like the video, hooked up the wires to the plate light but , not sure about those 2 tiny wires and how to hook them up. Also, how to hook up the green e-brake wire. Any thoughts?

I think that the side piece of the consol just snaps into a piece on the Metra. I'll let you know how mine fits when I'm done.

Dave
