One of the cars I’m considering as a purchase is a 2000 z51 with 86k miles, 6-spd, white exterior with black interior, HUD, XS catback exhaust, c6 19” wheels, and a c6 shifter. Everything else is stock and works as it should. No rattling inside which is sort of surprising.
The tires (nitto) probably have 50% life left.
Sale price is 12500~
Z51 isn't really important. People make that option out to be a lot more than what it is, and with the car having +85K miles stuff is getting worn out. There are also suspension options that are light years ahead of the C5's Z51 including most anything off of a C6 that'll fit.
Six speeds in coupes and convertibles automatically make me tack on an extra ~$1K simply because of how difficult they are to find (very low production numbers). C6 shifter is a solid upgrade and considering their price is very much worth my $1K addition tack.
Rest of it though is kind of run of the mill. Other thing to consider is even if the Nittos have half life if they're at five to six years old it's time to replace them, so you'll need to budget $700-$1,500 at the least for tires.
NADA usually gets it right and has this one at $13,375 for high retail, $10,450 at clean trade to somewhere between should be a safe guess.
I also found a 05’ z51 with 97k miles, 6-spd, in what seems to be in good condition for $14900. Is this Vette that much better of a car than the 2000 z51?
A 2000 vette and a 2005 vette are not the same class car. You are still buying a used car. The forum can not tell you what to buy, that's your choice. We do not know the perimeters of the purchase ( why you are considering a vette) Both years have plus's and minus's.
Find someone in your own world that you trust and knows something about cars and maybe corvettes. You will get better info than social media.
Good luck.
My car is a 2000 FRC that had the following specs when I bought it: 130,000 miles, 6 speed. Pewter exterior/black interior. One owner car with an entire life of service records from the dealership. Clean title. Exterior 9 out of 10. Interior 9.5 out of 10. 100% stock. Good tires. Plenty of properly replaced OEM parts through dealership. No CEL. No ABS/Active handling issues. 0 DIC codes. etc. Basically a very well maintained and overall next to perfect basic platform sports car. I paid $10,500. Since then I've changed/rebuilt most of the car....but that's besides the point Best of luck on the possible purchase! I think that price for the car in your original post is pretty spot on considering mileage.
