Not sure why you quoted me. I was giving the op my impression on both as I have had them both. Actually had $40,000 invested in a base coup and hated that it was not a Z06. Huge mistake not starting with a Z06. My coup was better in every way except one. It didn't have a Z06 badge. Thus every Corvette event some would ask why didnt I get a Z06 or Say something like what you couldn't afford the Z06.
Dude has a weird chip on his shoulder to be honest and is a little hyper-sensitive! Maybe it's a SF thing, who knows. I dismiss cats like this guy.......I have spent many years in different car clubs / forums, including this one many years ago, and there is always "that guy". I do enjoy watching them get all emotional and indignant about stuff they disagree with, which is usually some random subjective topic.
When I sold my last Z06 years ago I missed that damn car every day, and a 350z Nismo, 370z, porsche, and JCW Cooper S were no replacement. So I found the perfect (for me) car a few months ago and came back to the torch red side. I am like you and would be mourning the fact my car wasn't a Z if it were a base coupe.

It's the projecting yourself onto the OP that I take issue with. I quoted him originally to explain why an 02+ Z06 feels significantly faster than a base 2000 coupe, and then got sidetracked with the whole "pride of owning a Z06" bit. From an objective standpoint, I have found the hatchback far more utilitarian, as I have been able to stuff standing desks, 6 foot wire racks, and more into my C5. Things I wouldn't have been able to do in a vert, Z06/FRC, or heck, even most sedans. Then again, not everyone takes home "garbage" from work.
I've said it before numerous times. The C5 Z06 is the absolute best stock C5 you can get, and is a good pick for those who don't want to modify anything or make minimal mods. For those that are doing significant mods, the value proposition really isn't there in a Z06, and it basically boils down to body preference. And/or pride, if that matters to you.
