c5 convertible
Hello, I have an opportunity to buy a 2001 c5 convertible for with 14K miles for 13k, not familiar with pros and cons with convertibles. Any red flags I should be aware of and is this a good deal?
Thanks
Jeff

Gee, I was hoping to get $12K to 13K for mine with 80K miles. Unless its been stored outside for the last 17 years it sounds like a heck of a deal. With 14K miles it is almost a new car.

I was searching for a hardtop. Found the one I own now - a 2003 80,000 mile Vert for $10.5K I was and am very happy with the price and the car. I thought convertibles were loud and hard to clean. I took a chance on this one because it was IMO a very beautiful, well maintained car. Seven months in, the convertible isn't loud, isn't hard to clean and isn't hard to protect. It goes up and down easy when I want a change. Once my little window in the back came unglued, but thanks to help on this Forum I was able to reinstall easily and cheaply. Today I am very happy with my Vert. Good luck finding yours.

I paid a little less than that for my 2001 c5 vert with 61K miles. Sounds like a great deal.

If it's a garage queen with maintenance records and a clean title I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.
Only red flags would be original tires and regular maintenance. With the low mileage, as long as the oil was changed every year and the Dexcool/antifreeze was changed every 5 years and clutch and brake fluids are clear and it was stored properly it should be fine. If the column lock issue wasn't addressed, install a Column Lock Bypass or an LMC5. Also check for a leaky differential, especially since it's been sitting.

Yes! Don't wait!
Brother, that is s crazy deal.
Replace fluids and belts and hoses, etc.
Make sure you get new tires!
And may you enjoy it as much as I do my vert.
I can't get enough of it!

Read the stickies on buying a Corvette and the one called Definitive C5 Info Thread. Lots of good info in them. Have the car checked out by a competent mechanic and go from there.

pros of convertible - very enjoyable with the top down. surprisingly quiet in that mode because the top acts as a buffer against the rear wheel noise (which is the loudest part of the car). It's subjective, I suppose, but I find the convertible with the top down quite beautiful.
cons: my top doesn't fit perfectly and little bits of water drip on me on the rare occasions when I drive in the rain. It's fixable I suppose, I've just never bothered even though I've owned the car for 5 years and 50k miles..

Yes, that is a good deal for a low mileage convertible C5. As mentioned, check to make sure it has a clean title. A salvaged and/or water damaged car would be closer to $10K (or less).

I liked My C5 manual top much more than I like my current C6 power top. Not only less stuff to fix, but could swap to top up or top down in 10sec without leaving the drivers seat. Try that with a power top...

Love my '04! Assuming the car has a clear title, the price sounds amazing!

I’ve been looking at Jeeps and can’t believe how much people want for rusty crap and then there’s the C5 and people are almost giving them away........
if you you want a corvette there can’t be a better deal than the C5 and that seems like a steal if it has no issues.
