Default Headlight upgrade

Hello everyone! Looking to upgrade my factory high/low beams with some new bulbs. Any suggestions on best bulbs for me to buy?

I tried the LED Upgrade Bulbs. Was not happy at all. You have to install a resister in order for the headlights to work properly. Which is fine until you see how hot the resister gets .. I ended up taking them out and just getting some better bulbs at the local AutoZone.

In addition to the better non LED bulbs, I suggest getting Radioflyer's Hi-4 Harness that allows both high and low beam on at the same time. You may also consider obtaining Radioflyer fog light bulb replacements if your car has the fog lamps. They really help in illuminating the dark streets without light.

I just installed the sylvania 9006 silverstar 2xe gold low beam biulbs. It is an improvement over what I had but not crazy different. I am happy with the results with night driving and cost 60 bucks a pair. I may now change the high beams because the lows are much whiter looking now.

Look up the HIR 9012 and 9011 mod, takes the place of 9006 and 9005 bulbs respectively.

The Hi-4 makes a world of difference. If you can do a little electrical work yourself its not hard to build one, I think I got the drawings off of the Radioflyer web site. I just checked and the drawing is still there but they are now only $25 so you cant beat that price. I had all of the parts laying around so I just did it myself, Free is even cheaper.

HIR bulbs are a great improvement but need to be modified a little (easily done) to fit into their sockets correctly, or go the next step to HIDs. Many vendors on here and the price varies a great deal from ~$370 to $1200.

Would you recommend this set up? I have been thinking about going this route.

What is this resister you mentioned? Is it the same thing that I installed when I put my led tails to stop hyper flash?

George @ RadioFlyer Innovations has the best. I had a custom pieced kit, then a kit from another vendor... Poor performance and failures even with their looms. Went to George and the product is top notch as well as gaining supreme night driving. I went with the low rise, but he has a bunch of options.

I don't understand the resistor comment on led headlights. They are needed to solve the hyperflash problem on the turn signals. You can run led headlights without in line resistor.
For the high four harness just buy a relay and wire it in to trigger off of the high beam to supply power to the low beam. I did it for around a couple of bucks.

Just did the 9012 HIR Upgrade today. Very easy. Will take it for a spin this weekend to see the difference.

The resistor is used to get the headlights to retract or lower when you turn the lights off. With the low voltage of the LED headlights they won’t go down when you turn them off.

Ok i see your point. I had no issues without resistor in line.

Resistance iwould not be my first choice to handle that. Just rewire how the motor is getting power would have been my choice had i encountered that problem.
