Is the C5 (non Z06) market dead?
I have my '04 Vert, 6sp, 35k miles up for sale for almost 2 weeks now and not one single inquiry....nothing....only emails suggesting I purchase a vehicle report from them. No body damage or repairs, only a few mods; C5 Z06 Ti mufflers, Borla X-midpipe, catch can, Blackwing CAI, drilled rotors, C6 Z06 shocks, C6 Z06 shifter....no mods to engine....Sprial Grey Metallic, black interior....everything works except for one TPMS sensor. Price is listed at $18.5k
Is it the color? The Vert being a 6sp? The price? Am I only going to sell at under $15k?....under $10k....????
Just wondering what opinions are of the C5 resale market in your area.
Thanks

Nobody has any cash, you may be best off letting a dealer sell it on consignment because they have financing. Right now is a buyers market big time.

The market for soft top convertibles is very weak. Especially when there is a targa alternative available.

Just another point of interest.. In my time here Ive never seen so many new members buying their first C5, So obviously.. people are buying them. If I decided to sell my C5 tomorrow it would be sold by Friday.

To answer your question, yes ..that market is flat. The kind of buyers drawn to convertibles are older guys with money, generally speaking. They won't be looking for a C5, they'll be looking for newer cars because they can afford it.
The younger buyers like myself (relatively speaking) want a performance bargain at the bottom of it's depreciation curve... the Z06. There's a market for that car and it's doing quite well.
Good luck.

If you look at just what people have been posting here on the deals they are finding........you are way too high. That is only based on what I have read here lately not telling you to lower your price it’s just my observation.....
The the only way the price will skyrocket like muscle cars is if there is some sort of new sport or hobby that destroys them like demolition derby destroyed 50s, 60s and 70s cars or some new form of plastic rott that makes them more rare.........

You want to sell it do a search in your area on same type of cars listed. Then price yours lower then them. I do that with everything I try and sell.
I would list on craiglist, facebook , and ebay.

Z06's are so affordable now that it's worth a little more to get the superior car over a base model IMO. I mean all C5's are cheap now a days anyway... Z06's included.

Just put the trolls on ignore, it's what I do. I'm not convinced they even own a Corvette, even if they claim to.
To answer your question, I wouldn't bother looking at the forums for pricing. The reason I say that is simply that you will have two extremes. The first extreme is that their car is worth 10k more than market because it's got single digit mileage etc. The other side is the type that thinks no C5 is worth more than 6K and they're the real life equivalent of these reality TV deal guy and will get a 20K car for 5K or something otherwise.
As summer approaches, value will go up. I think as has been said getting the car out and in front of people will help. It's easy to be objective online, but if you've got someone in front of your car at a show or something, the draw will be stronger.
I think you're ultimately right. The fact the car in question is a 6MT definitely helps the price, but the convertible hurts it. I'd argue that a 6MT Targa can be lumped in there (desirable configuration), but you are right the "performance buy" cars are going to start to appreciate. You're seeing it with the JDM halo cars of the 90's (Supra anyone) also with even the non-aircooled P cars now.

Same boat
My 2004 Convertible has been for sale off and on for several months starting at $15000 for a nice car with no issues except 92000 miles. No reasonable offers and only a few comments. Eventually dropped the price to $12500 and still no action.
Last week I tried most of the car buying web sites and offers ran from $7500 (Carfax) to $10300 (Carvana) with Kelly BB, VROOM, and NADA Black Book spread around between the previously mentioned high and low offers. Needless to say it is still in my driveway. My patience is about gone so I may bite the bullet and trade it in for peanuts just to see it gone.
I'm guessing that the difficulty in getting a loan on such an "old" car and the interest associated with such a loan is also a negative factor.

Op selling a car for 18 grand turned into a political talk about the US not having cash because of the president. The generalizations in this thread is wild 😂😂 op: your price is too high. Drop it and the car will sell.

You might be a little on the high side price-wise. I know I overpaid for mine last yrad (17,000 for a 2004 vert 6 speed with 49,000 miles, bone stock) but not by much. I think if you asked 17,900 and accepted 17, you'd probably have better luck.
Also, I've noticed that buyers seem to prefer unmodded cars.

I think I chose the wrong wording on my reply. I was speaking towards the comment about desirability rather than price among the younger crowd. The convertible may ultimately be worth more, but I think the desirability is less among the younger crowd based upon everything I've seen among all my car enthusiast friends. The manual transmission will help, but the drop top will hurt, at least compared to the other droptop options the younger enthusiast crowd gravitates to.
