They're both top tier gasoline's so I'd say flip a coin. I've found that mine also likes the 93.

"Brands" of gasoline have come and gone, in my area. The only "top-tier", brands still in my area are Mobil and Sunoco, with an occasional Gulf retailer around. Hess, although not necessarily a "top-tier" brand, was recently taken over by Speedway, and I've noticed that Marathon recently took over a Mobil outlet, near where I live. Other than that, we have what I refer to as the "discount" brands, like the Fastrac convenience stores, and NOCO convenience stores, a western NY based convenience store/gasoline retailer. The only thing that got me using the "off brand" Fastrac brand, was that they sold non-ethanol, 93 octane fuel, up until a few months ago. They dropped the non-ethanol for a while, but then brought it back. However, it's only 90 octane, now, and a couple of other outlets in my area are now selling non-ethanol, too, but it's 90 octane, versus the 93 octane that used to be available.

In all honesty, the only time I ever really noticed any difference in performance, based on the brand of gasoline was back around 1992-2000, when I used to drive to South Carolina on vacation. Once I got well into Pennsylvania, heading south, I could buy Texaco gas, and at the time, they were claiming that they had some extra additives in their gas. Maybe it was my imagination, but I always felt that my car ran better on Texaco, and since I was able to get Texaco gas beginning in PA, and all the way to South Carolina, and back, that's what I'd buy.

On a side note, in my area, I see "generic" tank trucks delivering gas to most stations, regardless of the brand name on the pumps.

I had the same kind of experience with Amoco, but haven't seen any of those in years.

This must depend on area. I'll bet most stations in a given town are buying gas from the same source regardless of brand, if you live outside a metro area.

I've had problems with motorcycle gas tanks reacting with ethanol, so I seeked out shell gas specifically. I believe they still advertise their high octane as being low or zero ethanol. That stuff eats away at non metallic components like crazy.

While the gas itself *MAY* be the same, the final products are NOT. Check out the link I posted above.

Chevron is a Top Tier gas and it comes with Techron. It's a winning combination

Not in my area. It is marked E10 at the pumps like the others

At the pump my decision on 93 octane or ethanol free is based on price. I did some testing on my Ram Hemi truck DD and found I got 10% better gas mileage with ethanol free so I'd rather get 10% less gas rather than adding ethanol to the mix. Both work fine in my C5 and I don't notice a performance difference. Regardless I add a bottle of Techron every six month because it is MAGIC.

FWIW, when the Fastrac store in my area stopped selling the 93 octane, non-ethanol. I discussed it with the store manager. He told me that a LOT of people were POed, so it appears that there IS a demand for the "premium" non-ethanol gas.

I had 2 different motorcycle gas tanks (a Ducati and a KTM) PHYSICALLY deform from the ethanol in our fuel. The KTM tank actually stretched, I only noticed after removing it and not being able to bolt it back into place. The Ducati tank developed a big "bruise" on the side. They were both composite tanks. Since then I've been adamant about seeking out ethanol free fuels for the bikes and cars which tend to sit around a lot.

It doesnt matter.
Any "Top Tier" gas with an additive package will be just fine, dont get nutz about it.
93 octane and top tier.....all the same......

There is a "base" gasoline to which the local wholesaler, for want of a better description, adds the additive package that a particular brand specifies. That's why you see the same tankers around. BTW, Costco gas is a top tier "brand". That's where I usually fill - cheaper too.

C5 being my daily and having access to wholesale gas stations, such as Costco, BJs, Sam's, I can't justify myself paying between $0.40-0.60 per gallon more (93 vs 93) than for example Shell. When I had my car dyno tuned it was on Sam's 93 when it made 397WHP/400WTQ. I've never had fuel related issues with wholesale club gas. But hey, to each his own.

It's all basically the same gas coming from the same refinery depending on location in the country. The only real difference is the additive package for each "brand name" and whether it has ethanol added. Depending on the time of years some gas is also oxygenated. Shell and Chevron seem to have the best additives, but 76, Mobil, Sunoco are also good.

Years ago a friend of mine hauled propane and occasionally I would ride along . One night went to Indy to get a load . As we went thru to where he loaded propane we went past where they load the gas tankers . There were three gas tankers at the rack , one was Shell , one was a local from where we live and the third was from a chain here in Indiana . All loading from the same rack . The I saw the same thing with the propane , tankers with various company names getting loaded from the same bulk tank . So I wonder just how different the gas is from different companies .

I usually fill up at a Stewart’s because they have an ethanol free version of 90/91 octane.
