Default to much heat????

Hello all,
I just took the new vette out last night for a good first long drive with the wife. I noticed that the face of the stock radio, heater unit and all around in that general area as well as inside the center console compartment gets very hot. Is this normal in this this car?

Also can someone tell me how to put an avatar phote in my profile. I added pictures to my gallary but cannot figure out the avatar.

Thank you.

Personally I have never noticed any build up of heat around the radio. Good luck with your new vette.

I've noticed that a lot of the lighted buttons put off a noticeable amount of heat. I've noticed it more on the window buttons on the door. Maybe that is part of it. I know the center console of my car gets hot enough to bake cookies in and I have heard many, many people mention the same.

It was in the evening, and was cool outside in central NJ.

Yes I has my glasses case and a pen of touchup paint that were hot when I touched them inside the center console.

Heat in the console is unfortunately normal as the stock tunnel plate is very thin and the cats and exhaust are right under there. Eventually that heat makes the auto trans cable brittle and it fails. I installed a thicker insulated tunnel plate and the heat went down in the console drastically.

Th e radio buttons can get warm, and if they were replaced at any time with the incorrect bulbs, they can run really hot. When that happens, usually the radio was being repaired for the blank/dim HVAC lighting, and the replace the bulbs at the same time.

Here is a link to the tunnel plate info I used.

When I had my C5 the center console as well as the radio bezel area did get hot at times. There is not much blocking the heat from the exhaust in that area.

You want heat? I remember my 1966 Austin Healey 3000 . Exhaust right under the drivers feet with no shield or insulation . Brutal . But great in the winter!

Good to hear it is a normal thing. Thank you for the advice.

BTW, do you know how I can get an avatar picture attached to my account?

Different than the blue C5 you've got beside your post?
  1. Click on the down-arrow beside your username in the top right corner of the page.
  2. Click "user control panel."
  3. On your control panel, click "Edit Avatar." It'll be in the menu on the left, about halfway down the page.
  4. Follow the on-page instructions.

Our cars produce a good amount of heat in the tunnel area causing the center console to get very warm. They sell insulation kits that you can install to help cope with this.

Mine is very well contained with the Vette Nuts kit even in our brutal AZ summers.

I agree 100%.

Most people on the C5 section don't drive their Vette as much to even notice. I daily mine by choice and drive it everywhere so "YES" the C5 produces a $hit ton of heat around the center console and makes me feel like I'm burning my right leg off.

Again, that amount of heat is very normal just like the coolant reaching 230 degrees.
