Default C5 Corvette Cowl

I've seen this happening on other cars, but it's pretty bad on mine. Has anyone replaced their cowl, or repaired it? This rip is really annoying to look at. Picture below. I have q-bond, but I'd prefer to fix this properly, why does this rubber seal piece separate?

I just replaced the cowl. Bought it from gm parts direct and all new clips as well. Pretty easy to change out.

Same problem. I'd love to change it out too. Can't find instructions anywhere. Can't afford service manual set - illness

Pop out all of the clips with a flat head. Undo wiper arm nuts. Cowl comes right off.

What about the washer nozzles? Do they screw out to remove, or are they part of the cowl?

You have to carefulllly slide the hose off of the nozel. I say carefully because I broke the nozel off accidentally by pulling the wrong way. Gm doesn’t make them anymore. Had to chase one down at a junk yard. Vettenuts was sold out. Here you can see how the hose slides onto the cowl. Once the hose is off the nozel slides through the cowl.

here are the retainer clips. Mine were pretty damaged once they were out.

I ended up fixing mine. Mine was on the drivers side though, and not in the middle like yours. I did it at a friends body shop (while he was finishing up and installing a splitter for me. Ended up removing the cowl and weather strip that was separated. Used some cleaner he had to remove adhesive and got every bit off. He then gave me some black goop that's used to seal windshields. I used a toothpick to get it into the groove of the weather strip. Worked like a charm and hasn't separated since.

Thanks for making a video, this helps a ton! Now I will definitely buy a new one. I have a lot of other things to do under here, (replace leaky oil sensor) so I might as well do this too. Love your car, so clean under the hood and that's my favorite color! I will subscribe to you on youtube as well. I'm really glad I made this post.

Good video. The cowl comes off fairly easy once you get the wiper arms off - they can be a little bit of a pain at times.

In my opinion, you don't need a new cowl. That is just a piece of weather stripping that's glued to the cowl. I took my cowl off, removed the worn weather stripping, cleaned up the glue and then replaced it with a "V" shaped weather stripping.

I believe this is what I used: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...s37203/2519099

No tape/adhesive needed. I've had it on my car for a year now and it hasn't moved. Looks good too.

You're welcome! And thanks for the sub. The actual color of the car is black...which you'll see in tonight's video. The previous owner had a spray wrap applied. It was time for it to go!

As for the wiper cowl, you have a few options. Like someone said, you can "glue" a new piece of trim to the edge or by a new or used one to replace your existing one. Removing the wipers can sometimes be tricky, as well as the tubing for the washer jets.

This is a really good idea. I'm replacing my wiper motor tomorrow and am going to pick some of that stuff up too. Nice tip.
