I've got to admit. One time it did give me a scare. Half way home from an 800 mi round trip temperature guage pegged high. Check guages light came on. DIC read coolant temp as XXX. I pulled over opened hood and could see or hear no indication engine was hot. Oil pressure and Oil temperature was normal. I drove the rest of the way home with some apprehension but no problem. Next morning with engine stone cold temp still showed pegged high. I unplugged the temp sensor connection. Sprayed on some circuit cleaner. Coated connector with dielectric grease.Problem solved.
