Upgraded alternators do work
Despite what most say on this forum, you can put on an upgraded (higher output) alternator on your C5. I ordered a 250 amp alternator (stock was 110 amp) from forum member BLOWNBLUEZ06@RKT Performance . It is a Mechman (Billet) alternator. I wanted a chrome version but didn't want to wait the time it took to get one. So I got the polished version and it looks great. It also preforms great, I get 14.4 to 14.2 volts at all times, even when cranking up the 2000 watt stereo. No more dimming headlights.
I also want to shout out a big thanks to Bret! He was a big help throughout the process.

I have had a billet tech/mechman on mine for a few years with no issues as well, they work contrary to what some may think

Good to know - surely this will help someone needing a new alternator to handle the car's electrical needs.

I've been told the '97 & '98's don't like anything above the 110. I could be wrong and I didn't chance it when I bought my chrome one. If anyone has conformation on that, it'd be great to know.

Just curious, as "automotive electronics" isn't my strong point....did you have to "upgrade" any of the wiring, in order to take full advantage of the increase in power from the alternator?
