My last three Corvettes, before I purchased my 02 C5Z, were C4 ZR-1's so I understand your dilemma. Both are excellent cars, at decent prices, so it's basically pick your poison.
What color combo is the ZR-1?

They are both very close in HP and performance. That said, I would rather have the ‘02 and up Z06 for the extra HP. But between those two, I would go with ‘91 ZR-1 - the engine is a thing of beauty.

My last one was an Arctic White/Torch Red 94. Great cars. One thing you need to ask about the car, have the oem fuel injectors been changed? The early units are not very ethanol-resistant and will need to be replaced with injectors that are.
I would highly suggest joining this site and organization, great people with a huge amount of knowledge about these cars. http://www.zr1.net/forum/index.php

There were only 6939 ZR-1's produced, from 1990-1995. If you want a totally original car, I would buy that 91 ZR-1. If you want a hotrod and love to modify, I would go with the Z06.

Where are you located and who inspected the Z?

I think if you're looking at this from a collector/museum piece you won't drive, the jury is still out. The LT5 is a thing of beauty, but it's in a very subpar chassis. The C5Z has a laundry list of things that make it a very capable and frankly is more admired by the masses. If you're buying to keep it in the garage for 20yrs...I mean...flip a coin. Things that determine collectibility really sometimes aren't determined for years ahead; the result of regulation or design ideologies. The C5Z is the better car, the LT5 is a great piece...it's tough for sure but...guess it comes down to what draws you, because "collector value" can be debated from here until 20yrs from now.

I wouldn't be too conserned with resale value. If you plan to drive the car hard and often go with the z06. If its going to be a garage queen pick the one you like best. Both are great cars.

Tough choice for sure, and having picked up an 01 Z myself recently (also low miles but black) I vote for the Z06. Most say the 01 with 385hp was one to avoid for whatever reason, but to me it’s amazing! I’ve had several C5’s, a C6, and even a couple of C4’s, but none compare the the rawness of the Z06. Never drove a C4 ZR1, but the C5, to me, is far more comfortable then my previous C4’s. The FRC to me is such a sexy design.

good luck post pictures of the one you get!
