I had my appointment already made to have the windows tinted on the car. I figured, I better get it inspected before the tint goes on. I took it over last night and the DE DMV was not impressed with my new side marker lenses. The rules say, they have to have a amber lens. I argued my case with them explaining the modern technology of the switchback LED bulbs, but they were less than impressed by those. So, this weekend I will be pulling the new ones out, putting the old ones in and running it through on Monday morning. If you read this post backwards, that's what I'll be doing Monday afternoon.
Not every car comes from the factory with amber lenses. Does the state use some kind of guide that tells them which cars should have OEM amber lenses? Either way, that is stupid!

Here is the law. I can guarantee that there are unmodified cars that do not fit this criteria
Reflectors - All vehicles manufactured after 1953 must have at least two red reflectors on the rear, either separate or as part of taillight assembly (Motorcycles need only one). All passenger cars made after January 1, 1970 must have front and rear side marker lights as well as reflectors per Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). 2 amber reflectors and marker lights, one on each side as far to the front as practicable at least 15 inches from the ground and no more than 60 inches from the ground. 2 red reflectors and marker lights, one on each side as far to the rear as practicable at least 15 inches from the ground and no more than 60 inches from the ground. All reflectors and marker lights must be a minimum of 4 square inches.
under that law you posted, I don' think you will make the height requirement either. I just measured mine and they are 15" to the top of the light and if I raised it back up it would 15" to the middle of the light at best. And I am only lowered on stock bolts. The way I would read that law is they would have to be 15" to the bottom of the light because how it's worded " 2 amber reflectors and marker lights, one on each side as far to the front as practicable at least 15 inches from the ground and no more than 60 inches from the ground". Not trying to open a can of worms just making an observation. Washington state just quit doing emissions testing for the areas that needed them and I was not in one of those areas anyway.
This is exactly what I was going to post. Screw pulling them out...they have amber materials to easily apply to the lense...hairdryer and a couple minutes...easy. I used to yellow headlights for people all the time that liked the older GTD/GT3 yellow headlight look.
Every car in America has amber reflectors on the front corners. Your new lenses changed that reflector to clear. All it needs is the amber over the side reflector and you are set.
Almost every car has some sort of kit to cover the reflector because they are ugly on many cars. My BMW has them where a euro spec on wouldn't.
