Post collision insurance question???
Last Thursday afternoon I was rear ended while driving my 2000 FRC. The car that hit me was a 15 VW Jetta TDI, I was stopped waiting to turn right and he was distracted and was unable to stop.... he did attempt to brake and nose dived into/under the rear fascia of the Corvette. The impact lifted my car up onto his hood and on the way down off ripped off his front fascia and embedded it between my rear fascia and exhaust (Corsa Extreme). My rear fenders and deck lid are OK, the fascia, backup light/license plate holder, catback, and tub all have damage. The Jetta looks like it hit a wall!
I called my insurance (USAA) and they started a claim, on Friday the Jettas insurance company contacted me and admitted liability and provided me with a claim number. My question is should I continue the process with MY insurance (they are waving my deductible) or close and let the other guys insurance (Farmers) take over. I'm inclined to stay with my insurance and let them subrogate. What would you do???

I had a similar experience and worked through the claim through insured carrier, since they admitted liability. Now the question is are they going to total the car or pay for repair you will be satisfied with.
As an retired casualty claim guy, I usually recommend working through you insurance carrier when insureds would ask. No 'releases' are involved with your carrier. Since you did not mention injuries and if true, that is a good result. Cars can be fixed.
If the vehicle isn't totaled it will have diminished value after the repair is complete. The Carfax history will show a wreck and repair so it will be worth less than it was prior to the accident. Tell your agent you want compensation for the diminished value. Many states allow this payment although some will not consider it. Demand compensation! Good luck.

I traded in the Equinox that i was hit from behind in and did not hear a thing about diminished value because of a car fax. Keep all paper work for the whole deal, and where it was repaired. Not saying you should not do what is stated above. I didn't have any problems because of a car fax when it came to trade in value. I got right on the number that KBB and NADA averaged out at.

Of coarse you didn't hear a thing. It's the job of the insurance company to minimize the amount of money they pay out. Many new car dealers refuse to sell vehicles involved in collisions and send them right to the wholesale auctions. If you were looking a two or more equal cars to purchase and one had been involved in a wreck which one would you buy first? Paint mismatch? Lot of shims in the alignment? Panel gap incorrect? Repairs done with bondo? Used repair parts? Even without obvious visual defects it's worth less.

I don’t care what the dealer does with it after I trade it in. I got my money and don’t feel that I lost a penny because it had a bad car fax.
