Default What axle ratio?

I just purchased a 2002 Convertible (automatic). Not Z06. I do not know what axle ratio it has. I have the window sticker, but it is in poor shape and I can only see a charge for "….XLE RATIO $300.00" as an added option. The text before XLE is torn out. Is it safe to assume it was upgraded to the G92? I have been reading that the G92 is a desirable option since upgrading from the base is a recommended choice.

I am learning much about the car. This is a great forum! Seller fixed the AC display not lit issue before I bought it, but the HUD does not work and I am reading posts about troubleshooting it.

A friend of mine is already talking smack about his 2015 Mustang GT Convertible (automatic) and how he could smoke me. He may have more hp / torque than I do (right now), but my exhaust had been upgraded to a borla cat back, and I am looking to add a cold air intake and get a tune after that is done. I think his car is also heavier by about 550 lbs. We will see. I will get ready and then hopefully take him down when I am finished. I did not buy this car to be a race car, someone will always be faster, but it would be nice to shut him up and have a little more power. Thanks in advance for any opinions about the axle, or anything in general.

Sounds like yes you have the Ratio 3.15:1

Here is a road test for the mustang GT https://www.motortrend.com/cars/ford...gt-first-test/
The 0-60 and quarter mile look close to the 2002 C5 with minor mods (4.4 sec and 12.7 respectively for the Stang). A tune really wakes up the A4 trans.

Look on the RPO sticker - if it says G92, then you have the 3.15 rear gears.

As far as your mustang friend goes, if he has a manual there's a good chance he won't be anywhere near the cars full capability from a stop. Being automatic will be in your favor a lot. Grab some headers before your tune just to make sure

He’s talking smack because he knows his car is at minimum a even match in a straight line. He probably knows this on paper and by trying C5’s on the street. I had no interest in relatively new stock Mustangs and Camaros hanging with me so I fixed it with a supercharger. Just enjoy your car for what it is, you ain’t gonna smoke him without spending serious cash.

good luck

Why not just look at the tag on the back of the rear end ?. A 3.15 going down the expressway in overdrive, should be turning about 1950 RPM's. at 70 MPH.. Asuming that it has the stock size tires.

I'm curious how you'd see the driveshaft with the exhaust, tunnel plate, and torque tube all still installed

My '02 has a tag on the diff that shows the ratio if your pro code sticker is missing from the glove compartment.

Just tell him, "you may beat me in a straight line, but let's mix it up on a twisty, winding road course and we'll see. Oh, and btw, hope your Mustang doesn't rust out in five years".

I don't think there will be any smoking going on no matter who wins, it will be close. Get those long tube headers before the tune and I'll put a few dollars on your car winning.

Get a good launch. To do it you will need a tune or the engine will feel like it is going to die.
If he cant launch you got him. Traction will be a factor. A little less air in some sticky tires will help.
