So I am new in the Corvette world and I bought a 1998 vert w/ 65k miles. I want to do an exhaust on this but I am not sure what parts fit well with each other. I found a few things on Summit and I am wondering if any of you foresee of any possible issues (bolting up, header ground clearance ect..)
You'll get a hundred opinions on this topic. I went budget on my headers, Speed Engineering package, and Corsa sport on the axle back. Very pleased with the sound, Install on the headers was super easy but had to have the X pipe welded up after the install. The kit was around 350. Corsa cat backs are pricey.
Just keep in mind, you'll get what you pay for.
I do highly recommend that whatever headers you get, that you have the headers ceramic coated, and that you get a complete system (headers, mid/X-pipe) package for ease of installation. You also need to decide if you want to maintain the factory air pump, or delete before you order.
As to the axle back, depends on your personal desired sound and volume, and tolerance to drone. The best way to determine what you like is to hit the cruise-ins and car shows and listen to them in person. Video clips just don't do justice.

WalkAway congrats on wanting to modify your C5. It would really help if you put down your GOALS for your exhaust modifications. Just a list of parts and price points really doesn't do much.
You need to decide if this is a system for max performance, sound quality (your taste), installation ease, long term durability, budget, drone tolerance......etc
Its possible you will be happy with just the cat-backs for sound improvement. The complete system will give some HP. Although the stock system flows pretty well.
I had a 2000 FRC and went with Billy Boat Bullets (no mufflers, they have resonators). Deep. Aggressive. Some drone at certain RPMs, but the best sounding exhaust in my opinion. So much that, I did not hesitate to get the same exact exhaust for my C6 Z06. And I will again if available for the next generation Corvette I purchase.
Billy Boat Bullets (without mufflers). That is my very biased and personal suggestion.
Welcome to the forum and Good Luck in whatever you decide.

I'll second your opinion on the bullets. Great sound, good value and ease of installation. Some folks that are drone sensitive should take a ride in a car with Bullets before purchase but I have to say that I love 'em!
Thanks everyone for their opinions. I am still going through the process and doing my research before jumping the gun some thing. Looking at Ti Exhaust as an option now as well. Question on headers, I may have a steal of a deal on shorties (I know they are not LT) but would these hook up to any X pipe or would I need to get a specific one like I would need to LT Headers?
