Best Track Wheel setup for Track Use
The Miatas had 2 good opens for track wheels, the 6ULs, or the Advanti Storm S1s. I'm trying to figure out what the top options are for the C5 Z06s. I've read a few posts about a square setup with the 18x10.5 Speedlines, but not much.
I'd like to go with a square set up so I can rotate the wheels for tire longevity. Any suggestions?
I've seen a fair few people running 18x10.5" square, up to 315 section widths square. Standard C5Z rear offset. You get a bit of poke in the front. Fairly common. Allows you to rotate if you use the same tires. If you're worried about traction control / etc, you can run a higher profile rear than front to get the right rake (probably 30 front and 35 rear, or 35 front and 40 rear.)
People may also run 18x10.5" square with aftermarket wheels instead of stock. TSW/Cray have popular options for this setup.
Some 18" wheels will clear some big brake kits and some will not. Make sure you know what your plans are with regards to clearance.
On a higher budget, people may choose forged wheels, often in staggered sizes. Depending on your plans with regards to flared fenders or mini-tubs, you can go pretty wide. I've seen 13" rears, I'm sure wider has been done but I haven't personally seen it. Common setups might be somewhere around the 18x10 to 18x11 up front, and 18x11 to 18x13 in the rear. 19" rears work too, though I haven't seen 19x13 I bet it clears fine with the right tub or fender and the right offset. Common forged track wheels are finspeed, forgeline, and of course CCW. I haven't seen any BC Forged wheels at the track but you can order them for BBK fitment and track use -- the others pretty much assume track use, but you may or may not need to specify BBK clearance for some of them. People do HREs, of course, but that's a different can of worms ... in my opinion. Other wheels may not be manufactured anymore, or are hard to order/option, but there are of course alternatives for forged wheels (and z06 fitment wheels above), this isn't an exhaustive list.
