Both sunvisors had lost their shape, needed new covering and the drivers side needed a new masonite core; a new core was made using the old one as a template. The cores are now sealed against humidity unlike the originals and the new one is strenghtened with glass cloth/resin on both sides. Instead of thick paper and thin covering material, thin lexan was substituted for the paper on both sides with 1/8" thick foam added over that. Black Alcantera was used as the outside covering over the foam for a total thickness of about 1/2". The old bulb sockets were replaced with leds.

Looks good! I actually came in here hoping for a different fix haha. Am I the only one that completely removed their sun visors because I couldn't see with them there? I'm not extraordinarily tall and they're in perfectly fine condition, but removing them was one of the first things I did because they were really in the way...
Yep, got frustrated with them being in my face all the time and limiting my field of vision. I had run without them for a few weeks a few years ago while I was refurbishing them and really liked the unclutteredness. On a three-week road trip recently I just got tired of them and pulled them off. I'll carry them in the trunk in case I do get into a setting sun in my eyes situation.
Nice work OP! It’s funny this thread popped up....I actually removed my
sunvisors today. For me, the difference is well worth it. If it’s sunny I have sunglasses!
When I bought my 1998 convertible, the top 6 inches of the windshield had dark tint on it. As a result, I found myself rarely using the sun visor. Just an idea to consider for those who desire to remove their sun visors. Of course, the effectiveness of the 6-inch tint might vary depending upon one's height. I'm 5' 11", with a taller torso and shorter legs.
